Some part of the mithril was divided among the treasure-hunters, enough to make them all wealthy, or (in the case of Ravenwyn) wealthier than before.
But the greater part of the mithril, it is said, was given to the dwarven-smiths of Erebor and the Glittering Caves, who made with it great gates of steel and mithril, to replace the gates of Minas Trith that had been destroyed by the great ram Grond in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The new gates stood throughout the Fourth Age of the Sun and beyond, a symbol of now-faded glory of Numenor and Gondor. And so our story ends. |
