I honestly would prefer a drop off near where we're going since we're talking about the end of the story. It would give some feeling of closure.

But the real problem isn't whether we go by ship or walk. We could do either.

It's explaining and understanding those early clues in Minas Anor. Otherwise the front half of the story and the back half are totally out of sync, and the reader is left scratching his head as to why and when there were hobbits in Minas Anor.

It's like a beast that has a zebra head and a giraffe behind. They don't fit.

If anyone can suggest other solutions, I'm game. I think editing of the beginning of the fanfiction is actually the best choice.
