Gilthalion has just left Hobbiton.
Sting

"What have I done?" thought Legolas, as Sauche rudely brushed past him. He smiled a little ruefully and his eye flashed across the audience in the chamber to see what the others thought of this strange elf-girl.

That was how he saw the blade of Mornovarion as it was drawn from his robes. His bow was not strung and there was little time to act, but the lithe wood elf spun about, snatching a spear from the surprised hand of a guard. As Legolas twisted sharply around, completing his spin, the spear seemed to be hurled from his hand with the speed of a striking snake.

Across the chamber it sped, striking the blade hard and full as Mornovarion held it aloft ere bringing it down in a treacherous and lethal arc. The dagger fell from his upraised hand and he cried aloud in startlement and sudden anger.

But with his other hand, before the blade had fallen far, he snatched it out of the air and then sped unerringly to the throne where Thranduil stood weaponless.

It was the Dark Elf who moved now to thwart the bewitched Mornovarion, and Rûdhchamion leapt like a panther, knocking the traitor down and grappling with him for the blade.
