The small, nimble sea-creature hopped onto a rock, cocked it head, then pointed a webbed finger at the confused, frightened halfling.

"You hobbit?"

"Ye...Yesss...I'm a hobbit. Rose Cotton, at your service, if you please. Why am I here?"

The creatures back spines snapped up, and he exposed a wide set of sharp, pointed teeth. And then he started to caper around the cave, jumping from rock to rock and leaping from crevice to crevice. Rose realized the tiny creature was actually happy!

"HobbitHobbitHobbit! At last, at last! YOU are a hobbit!" He spun on one foot, then with a leap like a frog, landed within inches of Rose's face.

"And soon, there will be TWO Hobbits! Two! But I must go fetch him soon, ere he drowns!" The creature leaped back to the pool that led to the cave's underwater tunnel. But before he dove in, he turned back to the wet, befuddled Rose. Baring his teeth again, he raised his hand and said:

"I'll be right back...COUSIN!"

Then with a splash, he was gone.
