As far as I know, Thena, Guthrin and those following him will find a more difficult way through the Misty Mountains, not as far north as Redhorn Gate. That's why they need to send the horse back. Andros/Taradan are too far ahead to catch up to now.

Gandalf The Grey, the preliminary signs of that encounter will be enough for this week - the actual meeting can take place when you're back next week. (edit: Very good descriptive post, GtG! It's getting interesting!)
