Saucepan, I can't believe you've never heard the legend of johnny appleseed! It's a traditional american folktale. This boy who walks around with a pan on his head is sitting at the foot of an apple tree, when an apple falls and hits his pan. He picks it up and decides to plant the seeds. From there, he goes across the country planting apple seeds wherever he goes. This is what the previous generatons did to account for the existence of apple trees all over the country. I've always loved the story, especially since it's based on reality: a real person did something very similiar, though I forget his name...
