Time warp? Sounds drastic! If we do something along the lines of:

I think the elves (and Garen) could use the horses to their advantage best by skirting around the forest, over open ground. Mirkwood is pretty dense after all, and the men may be slowing down considerably. The men are heading east and will be leaving Mirkwood at its eastern edge. Maybe Aníram can track them from a distance - this would certainly foil their plan to throw the elves off by entering Mirkwood.

Then it should only take the elves two or three days to catch up - not too much of a time warp. Them elf horses is fast.
