I just found this excellent essay on 'Who is Tom Bombadil'. Even though I dont agree with some things that he wrote, such as Hobbits are afraid of trees, I beleive it is worth reading. I found alot of points he made very interesting. It made me kindof second guess my theory of who Tom is, and now I am flustered again.

			Have fun reading. http://www.cas.unt.edu/~hargrove/bombadil.html

Not bad. A good dicussion of the anomaly and enigma argument that was here somewhere a while ago.

Y'know... i was just sorta resigned to the fact that Tom Bombadil was unsolvable, and inherently so. But reading that essay, man, thats compelling stuff. I've never heard a more thorough argument or a more logical one. Maybe that just attests to my "newness" but even so... very very thoughtful essay.

I am reviving my old thread to let it be discussed more. This essay is excellent and I want to see what more people think of it.

I find this essay very intersting. The arguments are very good, but I don't agree some things -- I don't think hobbits are afraid of trees. I like it very very much.

It's a very good theory sustained by very good arguments.

The author is an excellent writer, and very good at finding arguments for his theories. I also like that he presents us with all aspects, so that we may ourselves decide what we think is right. I really enjoyed reading this article, thanks Elendur!!

<font color=white> Yes i saw that essay a couple of months ago. It was pretty interesting, particularly the idea about Tom and Goldberry being Aule and Yavanna although i don't believe it myself.
