Well, this isn't exactly a book, but... Have any of y'all ever seen Babylon 5? You should see the similarities there!
B-5 vs. LOTR
Rangers - Rangers
Sheridan falls off this place in Zha-ha-dum, comes back when thought dead - Gandalf falls of bridge of Kha-zad-dum(sp?), and comes back when thought dead
Grey council - White council

Well, I think there are more, but I can't remember at the time.
