Can I Get School Off?

Firondoiel: (with a big smile and sickly sweet voice)Mom? Are you comfortable? Do you want another glass of coke?

Mom: (Gives Firondoile "the look") Are you feeling okay?

Firondoiel: I'm fine! I just want to make sure you are! Do you want me to fix dinner tonight? I'm always willing to help!

Mom: Uh-uh.

Firondoiel: Well I am.

Mom: What is it you're wanting?

Firondoiel: To make sure you're comfy!

Mom: Out with it!

Firondoiel: (Dramatic sigh) Can I have school of this Thursday so I can spend all day on the computer at the Barrow Downs Third Anniversary Party???

Mom: (Totally confused) Whose anniversary
party???

Firondoiel: The Barrow Downs. It's a Tolkien site I like to get on.

Mom: Which one of the Tolkien sites you like to get on?...Wait don't answer that! I'll be here for hours. So this Tolkien site is having an anniversary party that you want to go to? How are you planning to get there?

Firondoiel: Well I plan to move my right leg, and then my left leg until finally I'm at the computer.

Mom: It's not a real party? It's on the computer?

Firondoiel: Yes it's on the computer but it's still a real party!

Mom: You're expecting me to let you have school off just so you can spend your whole day at the computer?!

Firondoiel: Well I wouldn't put it quite like that, but that's basically it.

Mom: No way! You spend too much time staring at the computer screen as it is! Especially at some black and green screen.

Firondoiel: (Shoulders drooping) Well, I didn't think you'd let me anyway.
