Schmendrick has just left Hobbiton.
Sting

"Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We'll wander back to home and bed."

Well, the weather was finally tolerable (except for the freezing wind - I thought my ears were going to fall off!), so I took an hour's brisk walk. I did not see any black riders, but instead I met Gollum*, who was very interested about my precious!I told I didn't have it with me...don't know whether he believed...
I was also surprised to see that the Brandywine was still partly frozen!!In April! I think I'm going to make it to the Green Hill Country tomorrow, finally!

p.s. I really can't estimate distances (and I have no pedometer) - how many miles do you think a hobbit (=me) can walk in one hour? I walked very briskly!

* To reveal the mystery: actually it was a teenage girl, who asked if I could lend her 50 cents!
