Bilbo would sit in his room all day drawing great Rings on everything he can find, insisting that a little girl told him to. He forbid the nurses to put a TV in his room also, and screamed everytime the phone rang...(That's if they had phones and televisions. Ever seen The Ring?) He would insist to anyone who knocked on his door that he didn't want any visitors, well-wishers, or distant relations.
