wow. I am a bit surprised by all those welcomes. I figured I would just slip in and blend in the background, but that is not possible anymore. Thanks for all your welcomes, I know I made the right decision by going back here. I hope the future will be as good as this, then there won't be any dark clouds on my sky. Question

Name (that you go by): Monica, but most people call me shinaynay (I really have no idea why; they just named me that a couple of years ago)
Age: 14
Occupation: student
Future Aspirations: Get into A&M, work for Pixar?
Goal in life: I would like to know the names of all the stars, and of all living things, and the whole history of Middle-earth and Over-heaven and of the Sundering Seas. Of course! What less?
Short term goals: Do something other than stare at a black and green screen all day
Passion: Singing, painting, drawing, acting (Fine Arts!)
Hobbies: " " and cheerleading, writing, listening to and/or being in musicals
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): Singing, acting, drawing, and the excellent pots that I throw! (on a wheel, duh! )

Fave book: LOTR (what do you expect? )
Fave movie: PJ did a fine job, but I love Save the last dance
Fave sport: Well, I'm a cheerleader ( ), but only because I'm unnaturally flexible. I'm really a tomboy, and I love rugby.
Fave store: Barnes and Noble is okay, I guess. I don't get out much.
Fave music: Like I just said, I don't get out much. I listen to musicals (I'm listening to Les Misérables right now!), but I'm in choir so I have an excuse to sing songs like that (I'm practicing )

What you can't stand: DON'T get me started on leggyboppers and 'Lijers... I came across this one girl who thought LOTR was written recently!
What you plain dislike: Didn't I just say that?
Who you admire: ??? Pippin? Viggo?
What you most love to do: Sing, paint, be on stage.
Your self-confessed flaws: I rant on and on and on and on about LOTR, and I'm a cheerleader
What intrigues/fascinates you: The world! CGI
What scares you: The thought of not living. Not death, but never being able to live.
Quotation to live by: Apart from BDer's sigs? Probably something from Les Misérables ( ) like my current sig. "Is there anyone here who can swear before God she has nothing to fear, she has nothing to hide?" ~Fantine, Les Misérables

I guess that sums it up! Maybe I should cut down on the smilies... Why is the limit only 8?

Daniel, you asked what thread it was. If I'm not mistaking, it was one of those talking about who the greatest elf was. (though, that probably doesn't narrow it down too much)

I have an inkling. The thread, where Luthien was discussed, and I argued against that people should not decide for themselves. It became quite famous, although I am not althogether proud of it

Question

You have just patted the Barrow-Wight! But, just call him BW. Welcome to the Downs, Tinuviel the Nightingale. Isn't it great to be dead and rotting? My words of advice to you are: never start a thread on the Oscars. I learned that was a bad idea last night.

My rating dropped from a 4.8 to a 4.36!!

Well, Eressie, your rating should now be back up a bit.

That's right, Daniel! That's the thread! I posted on it a few times too, and agreed with most of your comments. You were right in saying that not everyone has the same definition of greatness. Some people weigh certain characteristics more heavily than others. I did a little chart a few months ago with all of the major characters on it (from Manwe to Melkor, Frodo to Turin). On this chart I weighed six major variables that I considered to be my definition of greatness (gave the characters points on each one depending on how much of the variable they displayed), and Feanor beat Luthien.

Actually, I think I killed that thread. Well, maybe not, but I did have the last post (one defending Feanor). Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

So, Daniel, have you checked to see what you missed while you were away? We had a great thread going on the Vanyar and Noldor, I think you'd find it interesting. Here it is- http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin...=1&t=003009&p=

Yeah, I have been amazed about how much knowledge some of the young LOTR fans have these days. When I attended Ringcon last month I participated in a trivia contest, and some of the participants were really young, there was one boy who I think was maybe 9 years old and he knew who Theoden was. You must be a very mature eleven, Earwen. I know fifteen year olds who can't get through LOTR. And I didn't even pick up LOTR until I was thirteen.

Well maybe the movies help a little bit with remembering the names, and understanding the story (especially FOTR), it certainly helped me tell the difference between Saurman and Sauron (I was one of those people who read the books after I saw FOTR, the movie was what really got me interested)

Same here but Im glad I saw them or I would never have read the books. My little sister loves the movies and thinks shes Arwen( ) and thats how I got hooked. The movies help a lot because they kinda of show you what everything could have looked like.

You kiddies may be smart, but I can beat you up!

But seriously, I wish that I would've become a LOTR freak at a much earlier age. Before I was 16 I didn't have much of a social life (because I didn't have a car to go places), so I would've had time to read all of Tolkien's books several times during those years. Instead, I just watched TV. You kids don't fully realize how lucky you are to know Tolkien at an early age.

Well, Earwen, you have won the title of youngest downer I think. Gimli Son Of Gloin was youngest before he was banned, and he was 12 I think. Man, I thought I was doing well at joining at 13...

Note the 'could'. The wargs were one thing I imagined as being totally different.

Well, I was nine when I read LOTR, because my father had filled me with the Hobbit and made a LOTR-freak out of me.

Thanks for the links, phantom, checking them out now. Also thanks for your support in that other thread, most of our advesaries never realized that their two quotes contradicted each other, making their argumentation impossible.

"The Hobbit" was possibly one of the first books ever heard by myself, and one of my first chapter books. The cover has now fallen off from overuse. I recieved a copy of LotR for my ninth (I think it was ninth) birthday, tried it, and stopped reading within the first page. But, when I heard that FotR was coming out as a movie, I hurridly read the book, and convinced my poor mother to read the entire trilogy to the rest of my family, which she actually did! And for an even bigger surprise, they all listened, even my Dad! I take pride in telling people that I've "converted," my family.

Name I go by: Mike, Michael...anything but Mikey.

Age:15

Occupation: Homeschool student; Working for my mom.

Future aspirations: Get a good education, a good job, and to get married and have kids.

Goal in life: To live or die for Christ; whatever it takes.

Short term goals: To earn the money for everything I want such as: An Elven bow, some rings of power, an eleven brooch, a good sword, a cloak(not a blankent saftey pinned around my neck) Gamesworkshop LotR miniatures and supplies, and some other things.(Man! I better start working instead of wasting all my time on the computer! )

Passion: That's a tough one! I guess Christianity, LotR, Golf, guitar and my girlfriend.

Hobbies: Golf, battlegaming, videogames, Playing guitar, pretending to live in Middle-Earth, swords, archery, etc., the Barrow-Downs, and Reading(LotR).

Famous for: Ummmm...being nice to people, and being a really cute baby...I guess.

Favorite Book: Anything by J.R.R. Tolkien, various religious books, and the Bible.

Favorite Movie(s): LotR trilogy(RotK when it comes out) Austin Powers movies, and Gladiator.

Favorite Sport: Golf

Favorite Store: Any bookstore, any hobby store, any good sporting goods store, and any LotR online store.

Favorite Music: Rock, alternative, Christian, and the LotR soundtrack(s).

What I can't stand: Listening to other people chew.

What I plain dislike: Anti-War protesters, preppies, other guys that make moves on
my girlfriend...just to name a few.

Who you admire: Jesus, my dad, and Tolkien.

What I most love to do: Be with my girlfriend, read/watch/pretend LotR, and play guitar.

My self confessed-flaws: Being overly protective/controlling, getting in bad moods often, and being mean to my parents.

What intrigues/fascinates me: Life, God, our very exsistance(sp?), and the wonderful world of Middle-Earth.

What scares me: Spiders and gay people(I've got nothing against them, they just scare me sometimes, that's all.)

Quotation to live by: I've got ALOT, but the one I'm using right now is: "Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens" -Gimli

Additional comments: (like Joy's) Live your life wisely, purely, and fully. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow.(But don't make any bad descisions...what if Christianity really is true?

I think it's cool. I mean, ya sleep in til like, 8, do your work in 2-3 hours, and the rest of the time you can go on the downs or earn money. I like it mostly cause you have ALOT more free time.
