Is it Beren?
He was certainly a man of great reknown.
He was of Beor's House (my earlier answer).
He lived for a long time after he returned from the dead and availed himself of magic several times in order to be disguised.
He also left heirlooms to his heirs. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

The doll part I can only fit with Dol Baran....which is
nearly Beren [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]
