Helm's Deep might have been saved, but it wouldn't matter since Theoden would still be listening to Grima.
And, yes, we wouldn't have bleach. They should have given Saruman a rainbow dress for the movie... I can imagine Frodo, about to toss the Ring in, thinking his quest is finished, tossing it, and the mouth of Sauron laughing insanely when nothing happens...
