Re-post

Turambar, Banakil is not, but you are hot,! (woops, that sounds like a candy heart)

Edit: and Ruby is right!

I'll re-post. Give me a sec... Here it is:

1) Unnamed: Deserves no moniker (Gondorian name for Sauron)
2) Ruby Gamgee: A rosy jewel
3) Utumno: Melkor digs
4) Lord of the Ring: A Maiar's title
5) Ore: Inner mind, Valentine, heart (tengwa 21)
6) Kuduk: A burrahobbit by any other name is still a burrahobbit (Rohirric)
7) Iorlas: Bergil calls, "Uncle!"

Turambar 02-12-2004 12:12 PM

#6

Banazir, then? Although Sam was not the hurrahobbit, I'm thinking associatively. :p

Celebrian 02-12-2004 12:41 PM

Turamarth, good, good! But no, Banazir is but another name...
You are so close! You are all so close!
The pass is looking better than my ol' nemesis, the Redhorn, so it should be easier to pin down than an Ork.

The Password appears to be Uruloki.

So maybe Kalimac for #6 ?

Celebrian 02-12-2004 01:13 PM

Kalimac! How jolly! However, you were closer with Banazir.

Hah! You've guessed the password! I assume that means you have time to make a new one, and I'm holding you to it! ;)

#6 How about Kud-dukan or Kuduk?

Finwe 02-12-2004 08:35 PM

5) Oiolairë?

Turambar 02-12-2004 09:16 PM

#6

#6 should be óre, the tengwa for "inner mind, heart".

Celebrian 02-12-2004 10:08 PM

Only one to go

Arestevana, Kuduk is correct, a Rohirric name for a burrahobbit.
Sorry, Finwe, but óre is the answer, tengwa 21.

Only 1) to go. Voralphin and symestreem are the closest guessers so far.

Valentine (is the worst day of the year, of course...)

1. Unnamed...one? Unnamed one?

Quote:

You seem to have two Feanorian characters mixed together, but then, that's the idea of Valentine's Day anyway, isn't it?
No. I believe the idea of Valentine's Day is to...wait...you're right! Mix up! The only day in the year when the human brain is traded for a hamster's... :p

Turambar 02-13-2004 06:23 AM

No.1

Ulairi ?

Celebrian 02-13-2004 08:10 AM

Urulóki wrap-up

Nilpaurion, you have it, the (speak-no-evil) Unnamed, Gondorian reference to Sauron. That wraps it up!

Turambar, we expect your puzzle, trifle or masterpiece, next!

Turambar 02-13-2004 10:42 AM

New Password

1. Isenmouthe -- Sounds like a cooling cure for drouth in a dead land.
2. Leave one small bread for the second-last of his kind.
3. Un-tardy dwarf, with Gondor’s first, visits remote village.
4. Seems that 100 well prepared Bree-men were scattered and killed.
5. Alliterative lines describe legend of the faithful friend.
6. Nimloth -- Elegant court dweller wore white blossom for 30 centuries.

Celebrian 02-13-2004 10:48 AM

#1 + 6

1) Isenmouthe again?
6) Telperion?

Edit: Do any of you know the ALT code for the "th" aelig character, upper and lowercase? Thanks!

Turambar 02-13-2004 11:05 AM

Again ? Whatever do you mean?

But http://forum.barrowdowns.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif (E: on Isenmouthe, not Telperion)

Celebrian 02-13-2004 11:15 AM

Isenmouth again

Isenmouthe has been used two times lately in passwords. There aren't very many ME names that start with "I", are there? (Not making an assumption that the password is from ME)

2) Fimbrethil ("Wandlimb" = small + lembas + where are the Ent females anyway?)
4) Archet?
6) Silpion?

Finwe 02-13-2004 12:06 PM

3) Balin

5) Huan

Turambar 02-13-2004 12:33 PM

All guesses are incorrect.

Note: all clues have cryptic elements - I think.

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-14-2004 03:24 AM

Wow! New Password!

ð <- this one, Celebrian? ALT + 0240.

Is the password Istari. Just a guess here. :)

Finwe 02-14-2004 06:12 PM

2) Losgar?

Celebrian 02-14-2004 10:22 PM

aelig

Thanks for the ALT 0240 ð, Nil!
Edit: Found also ALT 0222 Þ and ALT 0254 þ

6) Ninquelótë, "White Blossom"?

If so, then my guess is the Ivrin for the password.

Silmarien 02-15-2004 05:55 PM

2. Gimli or Gloin
5. Gandalf

Turambar 02-15-2004 07:13 PM

Keep trying !

No right guesses, although Celebrian was very close with her guess for #6.

HINTS (for what they're worth):

2. Person. Silmarillion. Introduced as the son of a more famous character.

3. An obscure location. The Shire.

4. Person.

5. Person.

6. Celebrian is on the right track, but try a later specimen.

Celebrian 02-15-2004 08:30 PM

3) Laketown?
6) Nimloth the Fair?

Password: ILLUIN?

Finwe 02-15-2004 08:39 PM

3) Ladros

4) Ulbar

Turambar 02-15-2004 09:07 PM

Nimloth is right for #6.

Celebrian 02-15-2004 09:19 PM

Hroom! begins with I, ends with N....
Password: IRIMON (Tar-Meneldur) ?

2)Roac?

Turambar 02-15-2004 09:20 PM

I think you'll need to solve a few more clues before you can guess the Passsword.

Finwe 02-15-2004 09:32 PM

3) Michel Delving?

Turambar 02-15-2004 09:41 PM

Right general area, but more obscure (and must fit the cryptic clues)

Celebrian 02-15-2004 09:44 PM

:smokin: Oh, please let me guess, Master of the Dark Shadow

5) Oliphaunt Song?
Password: ITHRON ?

Finwe 02-15-2004 09:47 PM

Little Delving?

Turambar 02-16-2004 06:40 AM

More obscure than Little Delving - it's near some awesome uplands.

And #5 is a person.

Evisse the Blue 02-16-2004 06:52 AM

Lo there, password-solvers (and makers) I venture upon your domain.
Is #3 Dwaling?

Turambar 02-16-2004 07:39 AM

Welcome, Evisse.

Dwaling, a village in the Eastfarthing near the Hills of Scary, is correct.

Re-posting:

1. Isenmouthe -- Sounds like a cooling cure for drouth in a dead land.
2. Ibun -- Leave one small bread for the second-last of his kind.
3. Dwaling -- Un-tardy dwarf, with Gondor’s first, visits remote village.
4. Seems that 100 well prepared Bree-men were scattered and killed.
5. Alliterative lines describe legend of the faithful friend.
6. Nimloth -- Elegant court dweller wore white blossom for 30 centuries.

The Saucepan Man 02-16-2004 08:24 AM

#2 is Ibun, son of Mim, the last of the Petty-Dwarves.

(one = I; small bread = bun)

Finwe 02-16-2004 08:59 AM

5) Aghan?

Turambar 02-16-2004 09:07 AM

One out of two ain't bad

Ibun is right, Aghan (never heard of him/that) is not.

Of the remaining two, #5 is very easy, #4 is a bit tricky.

Finwe 02-16-2004 09:38 AM

5) Luthien or Leithian

The description seems to describe the Lay of Luthien or Leithian.

Turambar 02-16-2004 09:45 AM

The clue is worded poorly, but refers to a person, not the lay in which he is featured.
