Correct!

I'll be away from my desk tonight; I'll try to check periodically by phone

What's with a bean clue? I tried both a synonym for the bean and the type of bean, and none of the locations incorporates any letters of that.....

Urwen 05-11-2019 03:49 PM

I'm lost, and nobody else seems to be around, so (unless you think that they will come back) could you give some hints, please?

William Cloud Hicklin 05-11-2019 10:25 PM

Try the easy ones, the first L and the E

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:45 AM

I have, but can't make sense of them either. Garlic is clove, but no place there contains clove. And I've searched for anything shared by three names listed, and found nothing.

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:58 AM

I found 'church leaders'.

Urwen 05-12-2019 01:26 AM

The only one I could think of for E clue is CELEBRANT, based on the fact that a get together is a party i.e CELEBRATION.

Urwen 05-12-2019 01:35 AM

And the closest I could come to L clue is NIMRODEL. (IDLER+??)

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 05:28 AM

A pity there's no RIVERDALE, because you can make that from IDLER + AIL + REV.

Maybe search again.

Urwen 05-12-2019 07:15 AM

I only found the name GEORGE.

Urwen 05-12-2019 07:35 AM

LANGWELL for 4 (There is James Whitney, James Washington, James Hood and James Langwell)

Nerwen 05-12-2019 07:38 AM

The only commonality I can find between Washington, Whitney and Hood is that they're the names of peaks (in America)- perhaps the one that was left out is the LONELY MOUNTAIN?

Edit: x'd with Urwen. Uh- who are those people?

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 07:53 AM

There are politicians with those three surnames, but I tried subtracting IT from politician/s and couldn't come up with anything.

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 07:58 AM

Sorry ... should have read the end of Nerwen's post!

People I've found with Google.

William Cloud Hicklin 05-12-2019 08:12 AM

LONELY MOUNTAIN it is

Urwen 05-12-2019 08:39 AM

Still can't find anything for the E clue, unless it's EGLADIL?

Urwen 05-12-2019 08:40 AM

And could we get some hints for other clues too?

William Cloud Hicklin 05-12-2019 09:02 AM

C'mon- what is famously slow, and also famously cooked with garlic?

William Cloud Hicklin 05-12-2019 09:03 AM

Also, you have the password, but not exactly the theme, which would help

Well, "Everest, Matterhorn and Kilimanjaro" would have been a mite obvious

Urwen 05-12-2019 09:11 AM

Snails?

Urwen 05-12-2019 09:12 AM

Isn't the theme places in Rhovanion?

Urwen 05-12-2019 09:15 AM

Okay, Escargot is cooked with garlic, but how do 'church leaders' factor in?

Urwen 05-12-2019 09:19 AM

Maybe the theme is 'Route of Thorin and company' or 'Places in the Hobbit' (as in, the book)

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 09:56 AM

Esgaroth?

Exchange the c for the h for 'switch church leaders?'

Oh - switch the letter leading/heading the WORD.

I've never watched Game of Thrones, but I know Sean Bean's character dies in it, and I *have* heard of the original meaning of decimation. Was his character executed because they executed every tenth man?

No, his character was executed for the supposed treason. Or at least that was their excuse (but in reality he was executed because he knew too much & because of a whims of an entitled brat)

Exactamundo!
_______

1 has nothing whatsoever to do with Sean Bean. Orson Bean, neither.

More specific than that

Urwen 05-12-2019 10:36 AM

What about this:

Urwen 05-12-2019 10:38 AM

So we won't be getting any hints for the harder ones?

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 12:10 PM

I can't see how the manors of a Roman family can be anything but VILLAS, but the only names containing that word are SACKVILLE and (of course) SACKVILLE-BAGGINS.

Pervinca Took 05-12-2019 12:21 PM

Unless it's GREAT SMIALS, a sort of manor house in the Shire, with 'Great' being noble degree and 'Smials' being dwellings ... all owned by the Thain.

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:21 PM

You forget the letters N and D, from noble degree.

William Cloud Hicklin 05-12-2019 12:24 PM

Roman and Halls are not linked

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:29 PM

Guess we won't be getting any further hints, then.

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:32 PM

Second L clue: Elvenking's Halls?

Urwen 05-12-2019 12:33 PM

Also please confirm/deny my theme guess, thank you.
