Also, I am gonna assume that the password is made up of first letters.
|
No, not four.
The password starts with CHAPTER, so try to get those clues first. |

I said nine, not four.
Four-letter numbers: Four, five, nine. |
Copying it over:
1. See, hear, a conduit in confusion for him. HAVENS: They are grey, and beardless, but slightly changed. 3. Its mellow fruitfulness suits a Ringbearer's wanderlust. 4. Suffering, a land loses its first scenery. TRAUMA: For this ordeal, an article is added, on a German dream. 6. Winding road, alternatively, reveals her. 7. Call carriers for them! 8. A land in Berlin, with a road beneath, we hear? 9. Move along two! This one has a lid, and probably a hinge, too. 10. Empire builders swallow Northern Ukraine for him, initially. 11. French valley sighs in confusion for him. |
So chapter five.

Well, what other four-letter number is there....?
|
6 could be Dora, except there is no E anywhere.
|
#1: 'See, hear' means C, which we already knew (thanks to the successful parts of Urwen's guesses) was the first letter. Looking at the theme so far, I'm guessing CIRDAN for this clue... and sure enough, 'irdan' is an anagram of 'drain'.
#3: AUTUMN is the 'season of mists and mellow fruitfulness' of Keats. I think Frodo went walking in autumn after his return? #4: The initial P + 'suffering' suggests PAIN, which is plain (a land) - L... but how that's 'its first scenery' I don't know. #6: LANE anagrammed + OR = ELANOR. (I knew it had to be her, but Urwen's inclusion of 'or' in Dora showed me how.) #9: Could this be as simple as BOX? hS |
In a cafe overlooking a Welsh bay, and just managed to get into the Wifi.
CIRDAN: See, hear, a conduit in confusion for him. HAVENS: They are grey, and beardless, but slightly changed. AUTUMN: Its mellow fruitfulness suits a Ringbearer's wanderlust. PAIN: Suffering, a land loses its first scenery. TRAUMA: For this ordeal, an article is added, on a German dream. ELANOR: Winding road, alternatively, reveals her. 7. Call carriers for them! 8. A land in Berlin, with a road beneath, we hear? BOX OF EARTH: Move along two! This one has a lid, and probably a hinge, too. 10. Empire builders swallow Northern Ukraine for him, initially. 11. French valley sighs in confusion for him. Frodo feels more disposed towards wandering in the AUTUMN (we're told this when he is preparing to leave the Shire for Rivendell). PAIN is SPAIN minus S (the 'first' of scenery). I'll let you have BOX OF EARTH. :) To refer to the riddle I was alluding to, this also contains (potential) golden treasure. I really should have picked up on that before! |
Oh, I know the password. It's Chapter XIX (19)
|
Are we still guessing random chapter numbers? I call Chapter LXXX, ie Chapter 80, which Sam notes as being unfinished in the Red Book. (It's also the right length.)
I did wonder how a box was relevant to the theme... forgot about Sam's! hS |
Chapter IX VI
Chapter nine book six fits y’all were busy I was going to guess Chapter Nine but you all filled in a bunch |
Well, I will guess the next password, I swear it a la Feanor.
|
#7: Ah, of course: 'call carriers' is RINGBEARERS.
#8: I suspect that we're looking for the German for 'land' or 'a land', which could be 'ein Land', or something like 'Grund' or 'Boden'. I don't know what 'a road beneath' means (unless it's a bridge?). #10: I really want this to be Romans + NU, but I can't make a character name from that. There doesn't seem to be a specific common name for northern Ukraine itself. #11: This has been pretty much confirmed as Loire + [ah/uh/eh], which... doesn't get me very far. Most of 'Loire' appears in both Elrond and Gildor's name, but then you get random consonants left over. hS |

It's actually the road that has the Berlin connection.
NU is right, but you have the wrong empire. |
Ringbearers. So simple you have any idea how long I tried twisting Verizon into an answer?
|
Is it CHAPTER LXII that’s how many chapters throughout the book
|
Precisely!
RINGBEARERS: Call carriers for them! L: A land in Berlin, with a road beneath, we hear? BOX OF EARTH: Move along two! This one has a lid, and probably a hinge, too. I: Empire builders swallow Northern Ukraine for him, initially. I: French valley sighs in confusion for him. THEME: THE FINAL CHAPTER OF 'THE LORD OF THE RINGS.' Obviously I got the idea from Morsul's last password - I just didn't want to say so at the beginning for fear of giving it away too quickly. Morsul did the first chapter, so I did the last. But 'last chapter' and 'final chapter' didn't give me enough helpful initial letters, so I counted how many chapters there were in the whole of the LOTR, then resorted to Roman numerals. |
I wanna crack the next one, so bring it!
|
Still 3 clues left to solve.
|
Is the first I INCAS + NU = INCANUS? I'm not sure you're actually supposed to pluralise Inca with an s, but the name works. :)
And hang on: is the second one IORHAEL again? I'm sure we had that as a French valley before (though probably not sighing). hS |
L: A land in Berlin, with a road beneath, we hear? BOX OF EARTH: Move along two! This one has a lid, and probably a hinge, too. INCANUS: Empire builders swallow Northern Ukraine for him, initially. IORHAEL: French valley sighs in confusion for him. THEME: THE FINAL CHAPTER OF 'THE LORD OF THE RINGS.' One to go! The road/area of Berlin is referred to in a song which was written to take the mick out of Hitler (or, at least, that set of lyrics was). I have travelled along this long road, in a bus. The name means under some trees ... a particular kind of tree. |
Googling Hitler tree song, hi FBI Watchlist! It’s got to be Lindon the Westerlands sounds like the Linden tree
|
CIRDAN: See, hear, a conduit in confusion for him.

INCANUS: Empire builders swallow Northern Ukraine for him, initially. IORHAEL: French valley sighs in confusion for him. THEME: THE FINAL CHAPTER OF 'THE LORD OF THE RINGS.' Yes. The road is called 'Unter den Linden' (under the Linden trees). The song (or one version of it) goes something like: Underneath the Linden, somewhere over there Hitler's in his bunker, tearing out his hair. And the Grey Havens are in what remains of Lindon. Over to Morsul the Dark! |

This is one of them not all first letter passwords
1. An assassin messes up his task and takes an L and makes it personal 2. A Japanese Lion takes on a masculine pronoun 3. A scent only a teenager could love, Ents find it particularly distasteful 4. Ringwraiths get Lost and jumbled trying to find this First age ruler 5. A long way with some added Pirate Speak would name this defender 6. Meanwhile, so to speak, the end is lost. His day has come 1. Kili 2. KHim 3. Axe 4. AZaghal 5. FrAr 6. Durin Remaining letters can be at the beginning, middle, or end of clue |
Is 4 AZAGHAL? 4 letters in common with NAZGUL.
|
1. Kili? Kill - L + I.
(Make it personal is such a great way of describing I. Love it!) |
Yes to Both
Also fixed a mistake in 2 |
KHAZAD for the password?
|
Is 2 KHIM?
Komeinu are Japanese lion-dogs (statues) ... do we just take the K and add it to the pronoun HIM? |
Yes to both though I was Thinking Kimba and Him
Remaining letters can be at the beginning, middle, or end of clue |
6. DURIN.
DURING loses its end, and there is a Durin's Day, I think (and Gimli's song refers to the world being fair 'in Durin's day.') 3. Is there a teen perfume called AXE? :D 5. FARIN? Although not sure why IN would be pirate talk. |
No to Farin Far is correct start just adding in a stereotype pirate sound somewhere
Yes to the rest https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.urb...spray&=true Second definition |
Well, pirates say 'Ha-harrrgghhhh!'
But I've never come across a dwarf called Farhaharrgghh. |
I’ll give a Yuge hint.
It’s a sound that sounds like a letter and added into the middle not the end |
R, so FRAR?
