This question seems rather complex, or else I need to get the HOME. In the fall of Gondolin from the Book of Lost Tales 2: The Fall of Gondolin. It says "Tour. Ecthelion was wounded in the arm, and dropped his shield, and he must lean on Tuor, who could not leave him, even as the trampling feet of the dragon of fire passed overhead, and it seemed as if they would be crushed. Interestingly it seems it is not mentioned here that Lug is the one whose legs were cut from under his knees by Tuor with his axe...I know strange question

Since I believe this version was not as old as the one you are talking about I take this information as more likely since Tolkien didn't change for nothing.

When Men die they goe to the Halls of Mandos where Nienna gathers them in her hall Fui, from there they are send aboard Mournië after their final judgment and they sail now south to the destination of which only Eru Ilúvatar knows.
