Question thranduil

hey! for some reason it is now firmly stuck in my head that thranduil is a cold stern man who beats obedience and submission into his children with a stick/fist.

please reply with your opinion or any evidence which shows his character.
thankyouuuuuuuu!

<font color=red> Hmm I kind of know what you mean mystra. I can't immediately think of any evidence to the contrary either. Although if Thranduil was the elvenking of Mirkwood at the time of The Hobbit, he seemed kinda evil.

Because of his dislike and mistrust of Dwarves? The Elves were prejudice because the Dwarves always seemed to stir up trouble, the Balrog of Moria and Smaug for example. The same reasons the Silvan Elves (Lothlorien)had a grudge against them.

Thranduil and his people did not treat Gollum that way so why would he treat his children or anyone else that way?

remember Bilbo at the Five army battle stays with Thranduil because he wishes to die close to the elven king. And when Bilbo returns he pays a visit to Thranduil, where they exchange gifts and Thranduil names Bilbo Elf-friend. He treats Gollum nice, and lets him play in the trees. If he is somehow stern, it is because of the danger and threat from southern Mirkwood.

Well, the dwarves don't trust Thranduil or any other elf, so it's nobody's fault, is it?
