Not for the Three he didn't

Quote:
wife, children, family
Can't remember, but I don't think so.

Quote:
when did he die
Don't remember the exact year. Sorry.

Quote:
why?
He would not reveal the locations of the Three so Sauron personally broke him in two and then put him up for orcish target practice.

Quote:
WHY DID HE MAKE THE THREE?
He was tricked by Sauron combined with that elvish desire to preserve the past.

A lot of this is in the Unfinished Tales and the Sil.

Question

ooooooooooo I dont like how Celebrimbor was tormented *shudder*

Question: why is it that evil things feel the need to torment creatures? sometime it may be for imformation but other times just for the pure joy of tormenting!
it just horrible, HORRIBLE

Alright!!! A fanfic of one of my favorite elf!!!! Can’t wait to read it!!!! Okay, okay... heres some things I know about him...

Quote:
Did Celebrimbor have any close assistants?
None were mentioned by name… but there was an elven-smith group that was formed with Celebrimbor. They were called the Mirdain, the jewel-smiths of Eregion, who were ensnared by Sauron, and unwittingly aided him in the making of the rings of power. Sauron was then called Annatar, they didn’t know at that time that he was the Dark Lord in disguise (since he appeared “fair”). It was only after Annatar/Sauron forged the One Ring that Celebrimbor perceived his duplicity and hid the three Elven rings of power.

Quote:
wife, children, family?
Celebrimbor was Curufin’s son, remember? Making him the grandson of Feanor. (No wonder he was so talented!)

In UT, it was mentioned that Celebrimbor loved Galadriel and even made the greenstone, Elessar for her, even though she chose Celeborn! (I like him too! Celeborn the Wise!) The Elessar was given to Celebrian, who gave it to Arwen… who gave it to Aragorn.

Quote:
When did he die and why?
As Naurlothwen mentioned above…

He fought bravely until he was overcome by Sauron’s forces who eventually dragged him to their Master. He was then tortured but would not reveal the Three Rings location. He was then killed and his broken body was hung on a pole, like a banner.

This was done to dishearten Celebrimbor’s allies.

Quote:
WHY DID HE MAKE THE THREE?
Encouraged by Annatar, the elven-smiths made rings of power. Celebrimbor did not reveal to anyone that he had forged them (the Three), so they were untainted by the Dark Lord’s influence. Remember, only the Ringbearers knew of the Rings after Celebrimbor gave them into their keeping.

His main purpose was probably to aid them (the elves) and preserve their works, as well as to protect. Wherever the rings were, there was a certain “power” that preserved that place (e.g. Lothlorien and Imladris).

As Kuruharan mentioned, you can get more from Unfinished Tales as well as The Silmarillion. The Encyclopedia of Arda is a great source too! Here’s the URL, if you don’t know it yet - http://www.glyphweb.com/arda

Yah, it is kind of sad that Feanor's kin dies with Celebrimbor. They were great smiths, and if Celebrimbor had a son, he would certainly become a great elf. Maybe an idea for a fanfic?

celebrimbor made the three in secret by himself. He was the leader of a group of craftsmen called the Gwaith-i-Mirdain. Sauron aided him in the crafting of the nine and the other lesser rings. When celebrimbor realized sauron had foregd the one, he gave two rings to Gil-galad and one to Galadriel. Sauron, wanting information on the location of the three rings, sent a company to celebrimbors house captured him along with the nine rings. sauron tortured celebrimbor for informaiton on the htree but he wouldnt tell him so he executed him. Before the last alliance, Gil-galad gave the Blue Ring to Elrond Halfelven. Hope this has helped you.
Thanks.

and also, there are different versions of the family of celebrimbor. The more accepted one is he was the son of curufin and stayed in nargothrond after his father and uncle left. the other is that he was a survivor of the destruction of Gondolin.

Here's the section on this out of the UT, for those who may not be grace with that tome...

Quote:
When Sauron learned of the repentance and revolt of Celebrimbor his disguise fell and his wrath was revealed; and gathering a great force he moved over Calenardhon (Rohan) to the invasion of Eriador in the year 1695. When news of this reached Gil-galad he sent out a force under Elrond Half-elven; but Elrond had far to go, and Sauron turned north and made at once for Eregion. The scouts and vanguard of Sauron's host were already approaching when Celeborn made a sortie and drove them back; but though he was able to join his force to that of Elrond they could not return to Eregion, for Sauron's host was far greater than theirs, great enough both to hold them off and closely to invest Eregion. At last the attackers broke into Eregion with ruin and devastation, and captured the chief object of Sauron's assault, the House of the Mirdain, where were their smithies and treasures. Celebrimbor, desperate, himself withstood Sauron on the steps of the great door of the Mirdain; but he was grappled and taken captive, and the House was ransacked. There Sauron took the Nine Rings and other lesser works of the Mirdain; but the Seven and the Three he could not find. Then Celebrimbor was put to torment, and Sauron learned from him where the Seven were bestowed. This Celebrimbor revealed, because neither the Seven nor the Nine did he value as he valued the Three; the Seven and the Nine were made with Sauron's aid, whereas the Three were made by Celebrimbor alone, with a different power and purpose.

[Skip notes on the Dwarven Rings]

Concerning the Three Rings Sauron could learn nothing from Celebrimbor; and he had him put to death. But he guessed at the truth, that the Three had been committed to Elvish guardians: and that must mean to Galadriel and Gil-galad.
In black anger he turned back to battle; and bearing as a banner Celebrimbor's body hung upon a pole, shot through with Orc-arrows, he turned upon the forces of Elrond.
This passage is also interesting for another reason. The way that it is phrased, it sounds like Sauron personally fought Celebrimbor on the steps. If that is the case it is the only time in his entire history that he engaged in personal combat and won. Though in this instance he probably had considerable numbers of gibbering minions to help him.
