1420!

I'll give you a general explanation. Gandalf, Merry, Pippin, Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn are all eventually going to Gondor to fight against the forces of Sauron. They get much needed help. Eowyn, with the help of Merry, defeats the witchking (the lead ringwraith), and Theoden dies. Denethor dies (suicide) and Faramir and Eowyn end up marrying each other. Aragorn claims his kingship of Gondor, and they win at Gondor. Now they go off towards Mordor and fight an outnumbered battle. Pippin kills a troll and the eagles once again come to the aid of the good forces. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam are on their way to Mt. Doom. They make it and Frodo cannot destroy the ring. Gollum takes it from Frodo but falls in himself and the ring is destroyed. The eagles save Frodo and Sam. Everyone meets again and eventually goes their own ways again. Gandalf escorts the four hobbits to Bree (I think) and then they go back to the Shire. Saruman has taken over the Shire and the four hobbits stir a rebellion to take it back. Grima kill saruman, and then Grima is shot and dies. Sam marries Rose Cotton and has a family. Then Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf and others sail off to the west. The end.

Hope that helps.

If you want to know what the book is about, read it.

Don't wait for the next film.
From my experience of the first two films, I expect that the next one will be very good indeed but it will only tell half the story, and a twisted version, at that.

If you just watch the film and don't bother with the book, you'll be missing a tremendous experience.

If you want to know what happens then READ THE BOOK you will get much more enjoyment out of reading it yourself than having someone tell you what happens.

I think RotK is my favorite book, and it's a very quick read too compared to the others. The scouring, the appendices, the havens, tasty stuff.

Yeah RotK is my fav! It is sooo cool. Lots of action and it is so sad. Every one looses hope and the thing wit hFarimir and his dad, soo sad! But there are going to be some very cool things in there. I'm mad because they took out the Scourching of the Shier from the movie. They take lots of stuff out from the movie, I already know. My advice is to read the book. It isn't that hard to read and it is action packed. It is by far my favorite one. This may sound kinda dumb but I can't wait to hear the music from the 3rd movie. I mean I have loved the music from the first two. I like to play them, they are soooooo cool, I like to listen to movie sound tracks, I really want toget the SE CD sound track but havent been able to find it. shucks!

Tolkien

RotK is action packed and it has a lot to do with living legends and making of legends, Aragorn rises to become the King of Gondor and finaly something good done by humans in this part, i mean the valor and the comradship prove to save the day and the way the story is told you can't help but be overwhelmed and surprised by the events. it is just to much. Frodo and Sam make it through but they surprised me sometimes.

The only thing that disapointed me was the abrupt end and the simplicity of it.

i strongly advice everyone to read it

ps on my cover of the book there is given a qoute of someone(book not close at hand)

"The English speaking world is divided in people who have read the Lord of the Rings and those who are going to read it"

pss can anyone tell me how i can get my avatar on screen?
