Re: New Question

From the entrance to the Sammath Naur (the Chambers of Fire) one could look directly eastward toward The Window of the Eye of Sauron in Barad-dur.

Break out your National Geographic atlases.......

I'm not sure if this actually counts but I found this today (if it doesn't then pls let me know as this is pure trivia):

What submarine features in the Atlantic ocean were named for characters or places from the Lord of the Rings? Hint: There are 10 of them.

Re: Break out your National Geographic atlases.......

This is Tolkien related, so it's a good question. But I really don't know the answer so I am going to guess:

Underwater mountains or plateaus?

Okey day...the next question is....

Going back to Narsil/Anduril (a multi-part question):

What is the name of the sword from the Viking stories that Tolkien based the above mentioned sword? Who presented the sword to the first wielder? Who were the two famous owners of the sword?

Wasn't Siegfried's sword called Nieblung or something?
Terchal the smith gave it to it's first wielder,
and to answer the next question
Isildur and Aragorn, or perhaps Elendil and Isildur...

Re: Okey day...the next question is....

It is part of the Nibelung (or Volsung) cycle of stories. The sword is called Gram. Odin gave the sword to Sigmund as a wedding present. It broke as Sigmund died in battle and was subsequently reforged by Sigurd and Regin the Dwarf.
Sigurd then used the sword to slay the dragon Fafnir and recover the Nibelungen treasure.
