The Chief Wight has posted a tale which I wrote on the Main Page under Fan Fiction. It is called Tales of Tol Eressea, and involves several very familiar faces from LoTR. I would very much appreciate any feedback you all may have on Tales. Feel free to be brutally critical (in a constructive way).

If people seem to like it, I may follow up with others. But no promises. Thanks.

Mithadan,

I love your story. Well written with great style and grace. The sad tale it tells was wonderfully described. I was quite sad at the end, wondering if this might indeed have been how it was. I certainly hope to see more, more, more!!!

Thanks for sharing this,

Mithadan!

It was awesome!

I often think about what Elrond and Celebrian's reunion must have been like. What a day!

Except that I cringe when I hear Elrond use the term &quot;methinks&quot;. <img src=wink.gif ALT="">

Re: Feedback!

For my 250th post here, I thank you all for your kind words.

To those who have not read it yet, please do, and be free with your comments here. What did you like and what did you not like? If Tales from Tol Eressea is to continue as a series, what would you like to read about? I already have a new, and very difficult, idea which I am trying to talk myself out of.

To Elendil, welcome and well met.

To Red, methinks you may be right. <img src=wink.gif ALT="">

Though this may seem an obvious suggestion, I've always wondered what happened to Gimli after he departed for Eressa.

Re: Feedback please! Fan-fiction...

Mith, I've really got to hand it to you. That was superb writing. Certainly among the very best of the downs's fan-fiction so far, and always will be. I really enjoyed reading that.
(BTW, If I may give a tip for your further installments, don't make them so long. I suppose the introduction is fine when it's long, but subsequent installments and chapters should be less than 750 words. Otherwise I am sure that these traitorous barrow-wights we have will not read the whole thing, and it also gives a sense of 'reeling 'em in'. Eh? What do you say)

Re: Feedback please! Fan-fiction...

I don't agree with this, Gwaihir.... Stories/installments should be as long/short as the author likes..... Mithadan's story is perfect as it is! If anything, I was going to suggest you (Gwaihir) and I lenghtne our installments a bit.

Re: Feedback please! Fan-fiction...

Thanks Gwaihir! Especially flattering coming from you, since your series is excellent. I'm waiting on the next installment.

Re: Length, I knew it was running long but couldn't compress it. I also tried to find logical points where it could be broken up, but that didn't work either. The next one will likely also be long, but more amenable to being cut in two (or three or four, I always knew I was a wordy _________).

Voronwe and Elendil: Legolas is living with his family with the other Sindar. Gimli? Check the story. Elrond says that there are three graves in HIS garden. One would suspect that Gimli lies in Legolas' garden.

Re: Length...

Well, I think that installments are best kept short <img src=frown.gif ALT=""> . The introduction can be long, I think but after that the installments should be fairly short -- as I said, no more that 750 words.

But what did you say, RK? I should lengthen my instalments? Maybe I'm wrong, after all. How many words do you think I should be puttin' into them?

(Congrats on your evolution, Mithadan -- I see that you are now a Shade of Carn Dum!. All fear the Mighty Spirit...)

Re: Length...

I don't know where the 750-word came from, but if that is what you are comfortable with, continue it, please. But your last installment just left me thirsty for more.

I am guilty of the same... short installments with long times between. If I was faithful to my fiction, I'd keep it short but regular. But I'm not. So I think longer is better.

Of course, there is such a thing as too long. 10,000 words is prolly too long.

Re: Length...

Well, actually, as you said you were thirsting to read more, I was thirsting to write more. I restrained myself because I thought that it was better as it was, and if people did want more there was more chance that they would read my future instalments. So I hold myself corrected. From now on, my instalments may be longer, but they won't be that much longer. And I'll still try to keep them on a weekly basis; every Friday or so.

Re: Feedback please! Fan-fiction...

Well now. Did I say anything about grass? You haven't seen my working map of the island. A mountain range runs through the area where the Sindar/Avari have settled. However, if I'm not careful, more delays will come from naming geography than any other reason. I'm not up on my elvish dialects and the lost Tales are not going to be helpful in that area. Using the name Tavrobel is probably more than my share of &quot;poetic&quot; license. <img src=wink.gif ALT="">

BTW, careful with those curses. Remember what happened to Feanor. If you don't remember, you may soon have a reminder (hint, hint).

Hey Ron, is there any way to do the &quot;..&quot; over letters?

Re: Feedback please! Fan-fiction...

Mithadan, each character in your computer has a special code. You can access these characters by holding down the ALT key and then typing a four digit code on your NUMBER KEYPAD. For instance, to get the character in Húrin, I hold down ALT and type 0250. Zero is always the first number. 0252 is ü. 0246 is ö. 0235 is ë. The equivalent caps also have codes. If you experiment a bit you can probably figure them out. Probably best to write down the ones you want to remember! This technique also works in Word and other Microsoft apps.

Also, just finished your Tales, Mithadan. Excellent start! Keep 'em coming! I take it from your earlier post that Sam is either still kicking or else buried elsewhere. Where, if not beside his beloved Frodo and Mr. Bilbo? More Sam!

Well done Mithadan

I am impressed with your style of writting and how well you managed to make Sam talk like he did in the LOTR.

Your story has a very emotional ending to it, I nearly shed a tear.......

Would you be a writer? Or have you ever considered becoming one?

I am not a writer by profession, but am, in a sense, a professional writer, though not of fiction. Yes, I have considered taking up fiction writing as a profession or avocation. Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad everyone seems to have enjoyed it.

I'm working on the next Tales From Tol Erresea. The subject I've chosen is more difficult, so it may take a while.

May I hazard a question though?

I did not really picture the ending and crossing from the Grey Havens to be like that. Is it only your view or have you read something like that elsewhere?

Hi Mithadan! It's been a long time since anyone posted here, but I wanted to say that I read your Tales and loved them! The story of Maglor was wonderful. Also, Frodo and Sam - wow I cried - and that is a rare thing.

Thank you for such wonderful Tales.
