Sting new books! new books!

'The Hobbit companion' - 14.99 (purely hobbits! yay! and has a lovely squishy cover!)
'Tolkiens Ring' - 9.99 (would appear to be about where Tolkien got inspiration, etc from i.e. different legands and myths)

Worth my spending my pennies on? has anyone bought them/read them yet? They look interesting.

I flicked through 'Tolkien's ring' and it seemed quite interesting. I also stumbled across some books where famous authors talked about the effect Tolkien's book had on their own work. It was an interesting book....although, I forget what authors were in it... Ah well, that's me. The Forgetful one. I think Ann Rice was in there somewhere...

I found 'Tolkien's Ring' in the library yesterday!! ^.^ It's definately interesting, giving you insight to what inspired our beloved author. Plus, if you're into mythology and legends, it's good enough for that too. Also showed me how Tolkien used Macbeth as inspiration for Ents and the Witch-King! ^.^

You may be interested and maybe well pleased to hear that our very own Barrow-Wight did an exclusive review of The Hobbit Companion.

Even better you can buy it and other books directly through our site at amazon here. Buy the books you want at the usual cool amazon.com prices and conditions, and help to support the Downs at the same time!

Boooks??? Boooooooksssss???? BUY BOOKS! MORE BOOKS! BETTER BOOKS! Buy all books. Cram books into bookshelves with a broomstick so there is room for MORE BOOKS!!! Kick husband and children outside so house will hold MORE BOOKS! BOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOOKSBOO...oh, sorry. (whew!) Got a little carried away there.

On a serious note, I'd go for Tolkien's Ring first, since it seems a little broader in scope. From the short review I read here at the Downs The Hobbit Companion doesn't seem to hold many surprises, though the illustrations sound beautiful.

Birdie! You sound like me 15 minutes after entering a bookstore! In fact, I haven't even read even HALF of all the books I've bought.

How many pages does Tolkien's Ring have, anyway?

Sounds nice.

Ooooh...

Thank you all and yes Birdie more bookses is good bookses - don't actually have enough space for two more large books such as these mentioned. Ah well. I'll make room...

See, I should get paid on Friday (tomorrow). And I have my beady little eyes on them... (*despite the fact I have about seven other unread novels in the bookcase anyway. Well they can wait until Mr Tolkien has had his shot...could be a while* )

They sound wonderful. I probably won't be able to read/get them for a while, though - my fiance got me the ENTIRE HoME for my birthday so I'm still wading through that.

Bookssss, yess precioussss. I almost never leave a bookstore without something; OTOH it's a very nice way to celebrate payday.
