Re: Don't ask the compulsive for trivia..

Actually, a tran should have a little hat (^), not a little box on its a. I don't know how to do diacritics on here though. As to what a tran is, that's rather the point of the question, so I'm not saying.

p.s. I only just figured out how how your embellished emoticons work (by accident) a day or two ago.

Re: Don't ask the compulsive for trivia..

Ah... believe it or not, the â helped. It made me think of original Hobbitish (Westron) and sure enough I found it in my own Encyclopedia index (which I am endlessly working on)

A trân is a smial, as in Great Smials. Its a hobbit hole.

So, which are the best (tra(^)ns)? (And how do I do diacritics on here. I'm a Mac user and always use a pull-down when I'm word-processing?)

Re: Don't ask the compulsive for trivia..

Oh, shoot...I got so busy trying to figure out what a trân was that I forgot what the question was. I don't know which are the best. Those called Smials are the most luxurious. And Bag End was one of the best.

As for the ^, I don't know how to do them here so I just knock em out in Word and paste em here.

Re: Don't ask the compulsive for trivia..

Thank you for the word tip. I always thought Brandy-Hall and the Great Smials in Tuckburough were the real Versailles(es) of the Hobbiton, but Bag End is certainly top flight. Ask us!

Dumb mistake in my last post. Brandy-Hall and the Great Smials aren't IN the Hobbitton. Sorry for the slip.

In Valinor, no?

I thought that they first things that they built on Earth were the towers Ringil and Helkar and I thought that they were upon Valinor and that they built them for fear of Melko. But it has been a long time.

To be more specific, Amon Uilos = Oilosse = Taniquetil
