Silmaril Santa's Elves

Tolkien tried to make elves that noone could mistake as those cute little elves in Santa's workshop. However, Don't you think the Noldor and Santa's elves could be realated? They both like to make things. Or are they more realated to the other races of elves? Does anyone have a theory on how Tolkien's elves ended up as short helpers?

quote from The Silmarilion
"But it is held true by the elves that Santa, who is named Nick, the great enemy of the world, took the Noldor that he had captured and through slow arts of torture, turned them into short, twisted creatures, living only to manufacture and produce toys. And this was deemed the most naughty act of all Santa's evil works."

Gotta give chapter numbers, darling! Proper and all...it's in "Of the Coming of the Elves" on page 50 in my book (probably different in some of yours). Yup! That's what it says all right... Well...the only reason Tolkiens elves are tall is because the elves are based on Norse elves, mixed with Celtic influence. Before the time of Christianity(in thenorth0 rumour has it that they believed in them. However, Christians(during the Middle Ages)encouraged the diminishing of these"pagan" ideas, so the elves shrunk in mortal eyes...sad huh? That's I was taught....And I never thought elves were short...Does anyone here actually prefer short elves?Hahaha....theyre so cute...but scary.

Enough of this Mockery! (just kidding) I think that dwarven males, for lack of dwarven ladies, fell in love with some elves and had some decendents. (most likely while drunk, with a dab of amnesia.)

okay that was weird...........

Hmm....Maybe they got some disease that made them short. Then Santa took them in, never to be seen by the outside world. (Mainly because they were ashamed of their new height.)

I don't think hobbits would consent to those working conditions, though.

Unless...

...hobbits were enslaved, or nearly so, once already by a mysterious person with a white beard, ancient origins, supernatural powers, and excellent craftsmanship--and a hearty laugh may be considered analogous to a nice voice, may it not?

1420!

He promised them food...lots of food. All the candy and cakes and cookies they wanted. Some valiantly withstood the temptation, saying, "Candy? Are you mad? We want mushrooms, tomatoes, and nice crispy bacon! And vegetables! Get with the program!"

But some of the other, younger, foolish little hobbitlings, fell under his sway.

Such a sad, sad story. But someday, my friends, someday....the descendants of Meriadoc the Magnificent, Thain Peregrin Took, and Master Samwise, will ride in and blow the Horn of Rohan, and the captives shall rise up and take arms against their cruel overlord. And that day the Hobbits shall be freed....

Because they cannot take away our FREEDOM!!!

Is that why everyone eats so much on Christmas?

Hmmm...if he enslaves the Hobbits, is Santa kindred to Sauron and a fellow worshipper of Melkor? Are we all asking for gifts from a dark sorcerer? Something to ponder there...

You guys still believe in Santa?

No, Santa is Melkor, or did you miss the second relpy?

Parallels between the two:

Big and impressive
Male
Immortal
Live in the cold North
Perverted elves for reasons of their own
Had underlings in ME ("Kmart", "JCPenny", etc.)

Any more?

He was originally dubbed "Satan Claws" by his "elfs" (be they forms of elves or hobbits). One can only imagine what kind of treatment gave rise to this name...and perhaps it's best to not think about it.

Of course, over the years the name was worn down to "Santa Clause" and that's where we are today.

I'm pretty sure that Morgoth is still in prison right now. I think Santa is more likely to be Sauron. After all, when Sauron appeared to the elves in Eregion, didn't he name himself Annatar, lord of gifts?

And perhaps he uses his palantir to spy on us to see if we've been naughty or nice.

And that means the "reindeer" are really the Nazgul, and Rudolph is the witch-king! I suppose the red nose is a permanent side-effect from what Merry and Eowyn did to him.

Then, of course, there's always the possibility that the hobbits volunteered willingly, that Santa is really Eärendil, and that the tale of Rudolph sprung from sightings of the Silmaril...

Oh, I'm sure that's what he'd like you to think, Marigold...

Here's an import from "LotR Meets Christmas Carols"...an old poem taken from the Red Book Of Westmarch...quite telling...

Rudolph, the red-nosed Ringwraith
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

All of the other Ringwraiths
They used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any Ringwraith games

Then one foggy Mordor night,
Sauron came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you find my Ring tonight?"

Then all the Ringwraiths loved him
As they screeched out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed Ringwraith
You'll go down in history!

Hmmm...why does Melkor make toys for little children? Are they magic like the ring, making the users evil and greedy? That would certainly explain some of the kids I know...that explains all the "preciousssss"'s at their presents, I suppose...

What if the elves are really hobbits who look like short elves because she must wear pointy shoes in the north climate. They are halflings that have become immortal. Frodo is the head of them (second only to Santa who is really Celeborn.) with Bilbo at his side. Mrs. Clause is Galadriel who improved her lembas recipe by adding sweets. Hence, the christmas cookie. Using his elven magic, Santa flies around the world, spreading joy and hapiness. Unfortunately, Sauron left his mark on this world, making the people of Earth greedy and never satisfied.

Hmmm...well, the Old Took was said to have had Faerie blood, yes? Maybe Faeries bred with more Hobbits, thus making them more magical. And they help Santa with that flying business...maybe?

Melkor, o fluffy one; Melkor, NOT Sauron. Melko/ Melkor/ Morgoth's fortress, Angband, was far to the north. Manwe Sulimo had it right.

hehe. great pic. i personally have always believed that santa's elves are regular sized and the concept of the short cute elf was developed as a marketing concept. after all, children relate better to people who are their size.
oh, and elves also used this same idea and started the keebler elf cookie line. they started with lembas but it wasn't selling so they changed to sugar and chocolate instead.

i mean after all, even elves have to make a living somehow!

hmmmm....I always though that some random elf had decided to start giving humans presents as an attemp to satisfiy their greed. (ok, i got that from Artimis Fowl)
Santa is really Sauron, and he started the whole thing so he could get int people's houses and try to find the ring.
