Indentifying keys to Shores LOTR score - HELP NEEDED!

Hello guys,

I'm a new one in the community and I have a little problem, so I hope that someone can help me out with this.
I'm busy preparing for my oral exam on filmmusic and especially on the LOTR and right now I'm looking for a source where I can get music analysis information on the score. I have some parts of the score here (of course not all and just arrangement, not the "real" music played in the movies) and as I'm just too stupid for music theory I really need help figuring out the keys for several pieces of music.

I've learned that at university on a VERY basical level and now I'm just desperate because I just cannot find them out. Normally you go and indentify the key by looking at the sharps and flat at the key and then you have a look at the first and last note/chord of the piece. But that just doesn't work for this score!

There are people who claim that there's no general key to the pieces, that there are different keys for each instrument. I just know it from classical score like Mozart or something and often there is a "symphony in d-major" or whatever. Maybe that doesn't go for Shores scores. I just don't know.

So, maybe one of you know them or know someone who can tell me or know a source in the internet where I can get them? Any other music analysis stuff is highly welcome as well! You know, I'm really desperate...

I'd be very grateful for any help!

Thanks in advance

PS: Please don't mind my strange English - I'm just a German girl.

This thread might be of interest for you. I think it's the most in-depth discussion of the Shore score we had here, until now.

And willkommen to the Barrow-Downs.

The keys are pretty tricky to figure out; there is some discussion of this on the thread that Macalaure linked to (it is a rather good thread, if I may say so myself ).

Some other sites that may be helpful:

1. Official LotR Soundtrack Site - you can download an annotated score in .pdf form. I haven't downloaded it yet, but it's probably helpful.

2. A Magpie's Nest - this was a major help for our discussion here on the Downs. It provides a very nice analysis of most of the soundtracks.

3. Shore's Musical Middle-earth - I just checked this out and I see you've posted there already! Hopefully some of them will be able to help you out. Looks like Gkgyver1 has given a lot of information.

Good luck, and if you have any specific questions I will be happy to do what I can to help.
