Re: 2000 in The Books!!

I posted sth. similar at the books forum, before I read this. Anyway, I will copy-paste the post to over here. Here comes:
500 posts ago(it seems like yesterday), I could catch the 1500th post. Not so this time, but anyway:
Congratulations RKittle and everyone else!
This has always been more a 'scientific' board, with people discussing every word and every little comment of JRR Tolkien. I have always found answers to all my questions and I'm sure that others, who haven't read everything tolkien, also do. Let it forever continue like this!

Edit: This is also the 6861th post at the Downs! Remember that whole 5000th post thing?well, it was at 9/11/00, so, you all posted 1861 posts in a month and 10 days. Not that bad right?

My tolkien favorites are <a href="http://www.tolkientrail.com/"target="web">the Tolkientrail(michael martinez loved it!), http://www.barrowdowns.com/The Barrow-downs and its http://www.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/forum , Mount Gundabad, http://pub11.ezboard.com/bbagend16025/bag end and dunedains camp, where I'm an RPG moderator

Re: 2000 in The Books!!

OK. I'm really impressed now. Seems like just a few months ago that this was a fledgling board just trying to get off the ground, and now (sniff, sniff) its flying with the eagles. Congrats again Ron! BTW, whats with the "Create your own board" link down below?

Re: 2000 in The Books!!

Yes, it's really something, and when you think back...
In just one summer this grew from nothing to a big, serious community.
One reason for this is in my opinion the fact that this board does not really have an 'elite' of posters which could make the board unattractive for outsiders to post.
Other boards are flooded with admins and people who often talk only one to another. But the Downs have a friendly and competent Wight and on the whole a serious and attentive fellowship. While it at first looked like the books would be lagging behind the quiz-room badly, this also has changed for the best.
Thank you guys and girls!

Re: 2000 in The Books!!

The TOPSITES and CREATE YOUR OWN BOARD links at the bottom of the page are EZBoard's way of getting people to make new boards. I like EZBoard a lot and appreciate that the service is free, but they are in the business for EZBoard, not for The Barrow-Downs, so they drive 'page views' in any way they can, including encouraging people to do exactly what I think is bad - create more boards.

Oh well.
