You know you're obsessed when you obstentatiously make remarks about how different the movies are from the books, whilewatching the movie for the zillionth time.

You know you're obsessed when you advise your lady friends to wear elven-inspired gowns at their weddings. And then you tell them,"You'll look just like Galadriel"

You know you're obsessed when you have the trilogy in non-film version covers and put them on display... but when someone wants to borrow them, you lend out your "extra copies" which have the actors on the fronts.

When you sing your baby brother to sleep with the Lay of Gil-galad and the song, "A Elbereth Gilthoniel" and he loves it.

You know you're obsessed when you have you sister, brother, and three cousins singing the hobbit drinking song and a song about Gladriel to the toon of "Sponge Bob Square Pants". I'm also trying to learn elvish.

I'm getting a spare copy of Lotr soon. A proper copy, not the split copies. Preferably hardback. But there is no way I would ever lend my books out. They're too precious to me.

I waste too much money on magazines. I bought 3 copies of one magazine recently becuase it had a Rotk article in it. One copy was to keep for reading, and one was to cut the pictures out of. Then I realised that there were two back-to-back sides of great pictures, and I couldn't decide which I wanted on the wall. So I had to go out and buy a third copy just so I could have both sides on my wall. They do that on purpose, putting the best pictures back to back. It's evil.

I've shortlisted Sauron. Only a true obsessive could inflict that name on a poor, innocent baby.

You people are stalking me. You just have to be. It's sad but true that most of us are only posting things that we've actually done. I am, for one. Let's see...

You know you're obssessed when you...
-Can always make yourself hyper by thinking LOTR thoughts and dancing around (yes, it's sad, but I do this).
-When you put little signs up on your wall in Tengwar.
-When you go around the grocery store with your mom chanting "precious" under your breath (I did it today!)
-When you are standing around and all of a sudden you say "One gross!" for no particular reason.
-When you write stuff in tengwar with your finger all over the film of ice on an icecream container.
-When your friends think you're a hobbit.
-When you think the highest compliment is being referred to as a hobbit or an elf.

That's all for now. I'll probably do more later and come back to post it.

Naming my children (if I ever have any) after Tolkien's characters? But of course! Only all the names I currently have listed come from the Silm. The ones from the trilogy are too well-known now. I don't want it to be said of my children that they were named after a movie.

Quote:

Definitely! Ah, how wonderful to be called (yes, my little sis actually calls me this) "an elvish hobbitish cat!" I love cats, and I love Tolkien, so next to Tinuviel, that is my favorite nickname.

Oh, and Luthien: Quit stealing my posts!

When you get really happy when an English teacher says she's read the LotR 27 times and recommend this site to her. (unfortunately she said she's not that obsessive yet... but then why would she read it every year??)

When you're in science and as a class are deciding what movie to watch. Sir holds up a copy of FotR and says "This is too long really, but anybody wanna watch it anyway?" Before I say anything at least half the class has turned around and yelled "No, Jay."

Of course I'm going to do that! Who wouldn't? Other names on my list are Beren, Luthien and Peregrin (it's a real name!). I might only do LOTR middle names, though. I don't know what my family would think with 13 children with LOTR names running around. Oh, and what do you suppose ours spouses will think of all this (when we marry, I'm assuming most of us here are younger)? Or is it a given that freaks such as us can only marry other obssessed LOTr freaks? In that case it would be a sort of an exchange: "Dear, I know you like the name Fingolfin better than Beleg, but the Next one can be Fingolfin." "Okay. Or can we just name our daughter Eowyn?" Either we'd have to have a lot of kids,or else the said children would have to have many many many names.

Doesn't everyone have extra copies? I have my very dear one volume edition with the Alan Lee picture of the tents in front of the Black Gate on the cover, and then I have the old boxed set my dad practically gave me, and those are for lending and taking with me to school.

You're obssessed when you call every object that gets in your way or doesn't do what you want it to "vile fiend of Morgoth".

-You spend time on the Barrow-Downs when you really should be doing other things (guilty as charged!)

-When you're proud of your obssession.

-When you'd rather live in Middle-Earth than anywhere else.

-When you get all of your friends obssessed.

-When you create little clubs where everyone is an elf (and I was Luthien!!)

-When you're at a party or campout and you randomly decide to roleplay something from LOTR (complete with sticks for swords!), and even though all of the other people are girls, you want to play a guy so that you can fight (Aragorn, or a hobbit, or perhaps a girl who fights, like Eowyn, sometimes even an orc).

-When you go to get a shot, and you think: "If Frodo and Sam could go to Mordor, I can live through this shot".

-When everyone thinks Middle'Earth is all you ever talk about.

-When your parents say that you talk about LOTR at least once a day.

-When you amuse yourself by playing through your extended Fellowship DVD in slow motion (that is fun!).

Okay, I'll stop now.
I would make people call me Luthien, but I'm pretty happy with my real name. It's really not that bad.

You know you're obsessed with LOTr when...
1)You answer your friend's questions in Elvish by mistake.

2)You sew a picture of Legolas on your pillow.

3)You won't eat watermelon because "mellon" is friend in Elvish.

4) Your parents send you to your room when you mention LOTR.

5) You found about 20 clubs at school and get all your friends involved too.

6) When you watch the movie every weekend.

7)When you have every picture of LOTR floating around the world wide web on your hard drive.

8)You call your dad "Old Gaffer."

9) When you have a baby, the doctors overhear you say "He has gandalf's nose."

10) You go without food or water for a few weeks to really sympathize with Gollum (and end up in the hospital.)

I have seen a billion people's posts that say they've seen an ent. Next person who posts this, could you tell me, where and when you saw it and what it looked like?

Thanks.

I saw an ent a few months back, across the river on the bank amongst the trees. It looked like... well, an ent... literally a walking tree. It was kinda blurred, but I definitely saw one. Normal trees don't walk. Or won't.

Oh! I have a good one that I do: Every movie I watch I mentally compare to LOTR, and that is what I judge it by.

When you actually bother to read a list of signs that you're obsessed, relate to ALL of them...and then post about it...

How about when you not only have your nice copy, spare copy, and your movie cover copy, but you also have a copy to keep by your computer for quick reference for the Downs

I know. he he I keep thinking of more and more that apply to me. I don't know whether to be proud or worried...probably worried, but I'm very proud.

This is kinda long and I hope it makes sense...
When you go on vacation, because you can't be away from your obsession for more then a couple of hours you tape a bunch of pictures of characters on the inside top of your carry-on or make-up case or whatever you have. (like a mini-shrine to imitate the one in your room kinda) That's going to be me in a week. I'm already starting to work on it!

Question

Elfearz~ Thanks! I was actually selling the shirts for a time, but I got overrun with all the orders, so now they're only for EHSoRMS members.

Meneltarmacil~ As Meela so bluntly put it (not that I could do a better job), Ents look like... well, Ents. They're walking trees. I saw one on some camping trip a couple months back.

When you pronounce the world "celebrate" like "kelebrate"

When you see words such as "lithium" or "berontium" as "Luithien" and "Beren"

You start to steal vegetables with your shortest and most Scottish friends

When you go to see a (non-LOTR) movie with your friends, they have to restrain you from running towards the advertisement for ROtK

You tend to break out in LOTR songs at any given moment

You IM backround and buddy icon are LOTR related

You call your best friend Frodo and she calls you Sam

You want a personalized licenseplate that says "Asfaloth" for you car

---I do all of these I am proud to say, and I believe I am truly, madly, and deeply obsessed---

I got some pretty weird looks when I did that the other day.

Soon they'll start carrying a rope so they can tie me to a seat. And a gag to silence my squeals of excitement.

Another use for the gag.
