Well, now we know the root of coprophage7. How about the rest of you tell us where your nick comes from (even if it is obvious).

My name came about because trolls are stupid.
Quote:
"Lumme, if I knows! What are yer?"

"Bilbo Baggins, a bur-- a hobbit," said poor Bilbo, shaking and wondering how to make owl noises before they throttled him.

"A burrahobbit?" said they a bit startled. Trolls are slow in the uptake, and mighty suspicious about anything new to them.

"What's a burrahobbit got to do with my pocket, anyways?" said William.

Re: Where'd ya get that nick??

I used to play MERP in the early eighties. My character`s name was Taimar. I thought that it sounded vaguely Tolkienish, although it does not have any meaning that I know of in any of his languages.

Look into the http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/library/classiccourt/77/Mirror of Desire.

Re: Where'd ya get that nick??

I was going to be Galbasi to evince my fondness for all things Gamgee. I thought it less presumptious to reference it tangentally. Then I realized that Galpsi has one less keystroke than Galbasi and that clinched it.

me name

In the early 80's I was part of a little 'Tolkien' group in the burb's outside of D.C.
We all took M.E. names mine was Lindil- 'lover of song' or so I thought -since looking into HoME I have some doubts . regardless , when I started posting here about the 'canon' I brushed it off after 20 or so years of neglect. A few days later I recieved in the mail an old weatherstained dark green Silmarillion from n old bandmate , I open the cover and low and behold 'lindil ' in thin and spidery letters. My original Hardback Silmarillion had comeback w/ out me knowing it was missing!

After considerable reasearch and efforts on my behalf, I discovered that 'Gwaihir' was the name of a lord of ME's eagles. His title is 'Windlord'. And since I have always wished I was an eagle (not truly; if you get my point) I chose that.

Re: Where'd ya get that nick??

my name means 'which',accusativus,feminine,singular.
and the sig is simply the first 6 forms of the latin relative.
______________male___female_____neutral
nominativus____quis____quae_______quid
accusativus____quem___ quam_____quid
so it has no meaning at all,but it just sounds good.

Re: Where'd ya get that nick??

Some reasons why I took this alias I have:
- it's orcish, and I like orcs
- it means "Old Man", and age is something I respect greatly
- "Old Man" is somehow ironic for my person
- "Old Man" has an air of wisdom, and still decrepitude, infirmity, so to say
- it sounds nicely grim
- it refers to Saruman, one of the most interesting characters, and also a rebel
- it is a clear Tolkien reference, but not as obvious as others

Those who chain the future
Are those time leaves behind
Is glory now gone?

Is a rose without thorns.

My nickname comes from one of my relatives, Elsye Mitchell. She died along with a group of children because of the Fugo project(Giant paper balloons with bombs strapped to them sent over the pacific). Plus I really like it a lot!!

Oh so young. I better not wink at you, I'll be hauled off to jail!

I find myself to be most hobbit-like, in looks and personality. I saw a drawing of Rose Cotton and it was titled 'Rosielass'. I thought that was cute. And I didn't want an actual characters' name, to kind of be myself.

In case Sharku should come across this thread again...

Quote:
- "Old Man" is somehow ironic for my person
Why? Are you a woman?

Anyway, how did I get my nick?
Well, actually it simply popped out of the good, old name-generator. But since Maika means sharp some people came to the conclusion, that it fits perfectly for my rather sharp tongue, since I usually say what's on my mind.

And Mithadan, like I said on another thread, I simply refuse to believe the translation of that nick fits very well. You're too young for that, my friend!

I thought Merri was a more feminine form of Merry, which seems to be more of a name than Pippin, and besides, it looks cooler

But, of course, that was before I knew Peregrin meant journey. *sigh*

Maika, I am neither old (comparitively, though some might disagree) nor grey (except my eyes). Mithadan is an elvish version of a real life nickname. There is, by the way, an alternative translation for "mith".

Several people have already guessed correctly that "Orual" comes from C.S. Lewis' "Till We Have Faces," which I had just finished when I registered. I like the way it sounds, I liked the character, and I liked the fact that it started with an "O", because not many peoples' nicks start with an "O".

~*~Orual, who starts with an O~*~

I can't believe I haven't posted here so far. Well Balin is just one of my favourite characters, I can't really say why. Maybe because he was a close friend of Bilbo, maybe because I like the Dwarves and caves and all that, too. And the 999 is an upside down 666, which comes from a computer game I played where I wanted to be named Sauron666, which didn't work, so I became Sauron999.
There you go.

The Saucepan Man - hmmm...where *does* your nickname come from?

I think I've explained mine once or twice before, but for those who haven't seen. My name (not legally, but the one everyone uses) is Mary, which phonetically jibes rather well with Merry Brandybuck, who also happens to be one of my favourite characters (co-favourite with Faramir). Merry or Mary seemed a little obvious, so I chose to go with the "real" Westron version of Meriadoc, which is Kalimac. So it's sort of a lame, inverted pun. But I'm happy with it.

My name was from a character in a fanfiction that I ultimately abandoned. She was about my age and a mortal, so I just picked her to use as a screenname.

Irreverant. Iconoclastic. Poet. What I was reading at the time. Good sentence structure. Have learnt much.
