Call My Bluff, ME style

Ok, I don't know how many people know the game call my bluff. I'm guessing most of you will, but I'll briefly explain it. And yes it's like the "Two Truths and a Lie" thread, but they're very different!

Ok, so, the aim of the game is to correctly guess which is the real definition of the word. A word is picked and 3 definitions are posted, 1 of which is true, the other 2 being "bluffs".

For example:

Hobbit:
1. noun, A large fiery monster with wings,
2. noun, A creature like the race of Man, but shorter with hairy feet,
3. verb, to "hobbit" means to get very drunk and merry

You don't need to include the noun or verb bit. But I thought it might make it more interesting.

Ok, I'm not very knowledgable about details of the books, so mine will be quite easy probably. Or, it could be really difficult cause I've had to look up a thing to define ^_^; we'll see

Ohtar:
1. A dragon from the 1st age
2. A man who once owned a palantir
3. A man who was servant to a slain Gondorian

[EDIT]There are now 5 definitions for you to chose between, and if people don't guess between the last 2 remaining options, the person who came up with the definitions will post another.

Is it:3. A man who was servant to a slain Gondorian????

Didn't he pick up the shards of Narsil? I think he was Isildurs man servant or butler or whatever you call 'em...

Yes, that's the one. Your turn Celebuial Told you mine would be easy

When you guess, it could make the thread more interesting if you do as Celebuial did and give some information about the person or thing, if your really sure. If not, give your reasoning.

I'll guess #3 because that is the only one of the three that I have even heard of in LOTR.

Hmmm... Perhaps just three definitions makes guessing going too quickly... What do you guys think? Would it be too hard to think up 5 definitions? We will make this game last by tweaking it til its right!

5 would be fine, but I really do not much trivia from Tolkien. I would like to have some fun here though. Go with 5.

And how about having one of the definitions be absurdly funny?

Lol! No!

Well you were wrong again ! It was Bath of the Sun and was the old name of Faskala-numen, which in the GL is given three names, one being this one.

But yes I think 5 will be fine.
Do I have to come up with another one now, or not?

Yes, Celebuial, you can do another one with 5 definitions.

GL is short for Goldogrin, or Gnomish Lexicon. It is one of the small books which contain the first 'lexicons' of the Elvish languages, the other being the Qenya lexicon or QL

Ok.... lets see....

Mittalmar:

1. A mountain on Númenor

2. An area of Grass-land in the Undying lands near to the Gardens of Lorien

3. The central lands of Númenor (also grass-land)

4. A Maia in the service of Lorien

5. An Elf who perished whilst crossing the Helcaraxë

I know this one!

#3, as in "in the middle of Mittalmar rose the mount Meneltarma where they worshiped Eru Illuvatar"

My quote may be faulty, but I know its something like that

Yeah!

Mar-nu-Falmar

1. The damaging of an unused "falmar"
2. An evil Elf
3. A Haradrim king of the Second Age
4. another name for Numenore
5. another name for Angband

This is probably really easy, too.

I know this one it's 4. It means 'Home Under the Waves' so it was obviously given after the destruction...

Right?

I'm pretty sure it is number 3 because of the way your possible answers intertwine. You wouldn't mention Fionwe-urion if there was no relationship, and I'm pretty sure that Erinti was Manwe and Varda's daughter.

Good try anyway. I didn't if it was 3 or 1, if it makes you feel better...

Nulukkizdin

1. The Dwarvish name for Nargothrond
2. A Dwarvish curse
3. Gimli's little-known mother
4. The son of Azaghal, the Dwarf-king
5. The Dwarven for the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Unnumbered tears.

Happy guessing. I guess you know its a Khuzdul word...

Guess "you" means me? And sorry, Wilva, I've done like that a lot lately. Same thing happened to Celebuial in " Two truths and a lie...". I'm soon hated here

Well here I go:

Hithlain
1) Land in north-west Beleriand
2) Ainur of unknown origin (from sindar hîth=mist aina=holy)
3) One of Thingol's servants
4) A small river in Numenor
5) Elven rope material

Good luck!

Ulwarth

And that'll be 5) an easterling and son of Ulfgang the Black. Ulfgang and his three sons Ulwarth, Uldor ("the accursed") and Ulfast betrayed Caranthir during Nirn. and were one of the reasons the battle ended like it did. But they all paid the prize of betrayal as they were slain. (By other easterlings. The sons of Bor if I remember correctly).

And mister Elder, it was not meant to offend you oh almighty

Thank you o wise old man ! This is probably too easy too but I'll try.

Orcrist

1) A sword, used by Thorin Oakenshield and laid beside him in his tomb
2) A sword, twin of Angrist
3) A sword, by goblins named Biter
4) A sword once borne by Thingol King of Gondolin
5) One of few religious figures in the Orcish Legendarium

Once again, good luck!

It's 1) A sword, used by Thorin Oakenshield and laid beside him in his tomb.

I'm so sorry Thinlomien but that is not totally correct. This was not very nice, but if you look at the meaning literally, it's not true. I had to do something to make it a bit harder than previous questions. Sorry I'll explain whan I have the right answer if not someone else care to explain what I'm talking about... Do try again!

#1 is wrong because the sword was laid on top of Thorin, and the true definition is

#3 a sword, by goblins called Biter

That is correct. Once again, I'm sorry for laying out such a trap. It's only a matter of words, but that's the definition of a book too, isn't? Words.

But my intention was to have the thread-dominating bilbo_baggins to fall in the trap. I thought it had been too easy for him this far. But it's your turn again, Bilbo you old silly hobbit!

Trying to trick me eh? Someone finally finds something that they are good at, and people want to kick them off. Well you aren't very nice to an old, kindly hobbit whose only desire is to smoke in peace while discoursing on Tolkien. Anyway...

To show you how nice I play I will give you an easy one:

Ar-Sakalthor
1. A Numenorean king who persecuted the Elendili
2. The father of the Numenorean king who persecuted the Elendili
3. The heir to the throne when Numenore fell
4. A Numenorean who was seduced by Sauron
5. The royal Gondorian body embalmer, who was fired by Denethor and rehired by Aragorn

Please don't laugh too hard.

Nobody's laughing... Actually the kings of Numenor have always been the part I've known least about. But I do think I know this. I'll wait a while with my answer though as it feels as if we should let someone more participate. For example, Thinlomien can have her well deserved second chance. It was a nasty trick by me...

And I have to trick you, bilbo. You know all the answers otherwise The evil balrog spirit in me woke up...
