Tolkien Best locations

Ok, we've had Best Avatars, best titles, best threads... Have we had best locations?

If so, I am deeply sorry, but I could not find it, so here goes.
You may, or may not, have noticed the locations that everyone has on each post. On mine it reads; “Location: The citadel of the King” So for all ye downers that be yet dead, vote for you favourite location.

I couldn't find it either, but I'm certain we have had one in the past.

It got closed though. If I'm remembering correctly the thread got flooded with off-topic posts and things got so crazy that BW had to close it. We'll just have to see if he allows this thread to stay open.

My most favorite location is Elennar Starfire's:

That's my input for now. I certainly hope this thread doesn't get closed.

True. So let's keep this one on topic, eh folks?

You mean the Faraway Tree? Why that's my real location, of course . But, as all good parents will tell you, you're not supposed to state your real location on the interweb, so I changed it to something a bit more wistful - somewhere I'd really like to be (and its not just any dock - I want to sit on the one that Otis was sitting on ).

I liked Eomer's old one, something to the effect of:

On a battlefield, fighting orcs and other such beasts
I'm not sure that is it exactly, because he changed it.

I like Gil-Galad's

I like that location, too.

I also like yours, Diamond (Staring at the ceiling, making friends with shadows on my wall). It reminds me of the Everclear song that says-

"I see faces on the ceiling
I see them move, I hear them singing"

and also-

"I see pictures in the clouds
So obscene I gotta laugh out loud"

Is that where you got the idea for it?

Well, close, I suppose. It's from the Matchbox Twenty song that goes:

Quote:
All day, staring at the ceiling,
making friends with shadows on my wall.
All night, hearing voices telling me
that I should get some sleep because
tomorrow might be good for something....
Etc. I like the song but also really tend to be up all night (as some of my posting times at the 'Downs give away, I'm sure.) So you can assume that in between posts and such I am staring (thoughtfully, of course) at various points of interest in the living room. The voices also tell me what to write.

I also like Mr. Underhill's
Quote:
Glued to my chair
Don't know if he still has that one, but if not, he did for a long while.

Silmaril Location: real life!

Though I enjoy the fantasy locations many members have (yes, Aylwen's "Isle of Conclusions" is brilliant!), I'd like to speak up for all those who use their real locations. If it weren't for them, how would we know that this wonderful site includes people from not only North America and Europe but, to name a few places, Russia, India, South Africa, the Philippines, New Zealand and... Georgia (the Eastern European country, not the U.S. state)?! Our web really is world-wide!

I also find it helpful to know where a member is located so that I have an idea what the time of day is there when I'm waiting for an answer to a post or PM.

I'd post my real location (New York, not the city, GMT -4), only I rather enjoy posting locations that connect more to my state of mind than physical location. Such as "Cloud #9". Although that doesn't particularly apply at the moment... time to change it.

Thanks Mariska, I didn't realise anyone remembered mine after all this time.

My personal vote goes to Saucy, as that was the second song I learned to play on guitar, and still one of my personal favourites.

Yes, that's cool isn't it But what do I see, NightKnight, you changed your location and it's not a Nightwish song, why you deserter!
I like all those that have been said before...I also like Firefoot's 'here at the end of all things". And Lhunadawen's is something if only for the length and the story-like quality (it also stops abruptly at a key point in the telling...darn)

I think somebody (I forget who)'s location went something like this:
Outside your window. Yeah, the big tree. No, not that one. Yeah, up there.

That one was very clever.

What exactly is Sapphire_Flame's location about, anyway? I don't have a clue what a xenomorph is. Doesn't she ever get tired of playing with that thing? I figure it must have gnawed her face off by now.

I've received a couple of interesting comments about my gorilla cage location not too long ago. Apparently, people think I'm actually a gorilla. What they don't know is that some crazy zookeeper just happened to throw me in here and nobody's ever let me out. Why this particular zoo had to hire extremely nearsighted zookeepers is beyond me.

You know me well enough, love. Would I take a break?

And for some reason, "the phantom" has a location that really amuses me. I was in Omaha once, and it was very.... field-ish. Yes, I realise it's a big city and I was way outside of it, but I still can't shake the image of the phantom sitting in a corn field on BD.

Edit: And I'm naturally very fond of The Only Real Estel's new one.

Lol, pig headed to the end, and don't we love you for it, hon

The first part of Imladris's 'location' conjures up a vivid image in my mind for some reason - 'sitting in the Ashes of the phoenix'. Makes you wonder whether it is talking about another phoenix or whether she is actually the phoenix...

I love these threads.

Okay, my faves...

Feanor's:

Just fell off of what ever it is that 'balanced' people are standing on.

Gil-Galad's, of course:

Burninating the Country Side

And Eleny's:

Sitting on the floor of a bottomless pit

There are some more....

Quote:

*cackles maniacally at having confused people* No, Zeno (my xenomorph), has not gnawed my face off. He knows better. I don't get tired of playing with him (he and Witchking, my mini-balrog, are quite good friends by now; they have food fights with bits of fangirls and bacon). And a xenomorph is the alien from the Aliens movies (you know, with Sigourney Weaver). Here is a picture:

Aww, Saphy, you just brightened my day considerably, and I'll tell you this: my location is my actual current state of mind, so the fact that I smiled is a great thing. Thank you.

I, like Esty, like seeing people's actual locations (no, I'm NOT a stalker!). It's amazing to see how many people come from so many places.

And for some reason, "the phantom" has a location that really amuses me. I was in Omaha once, and it was very.... field-ish. Yes, I realise it's a big city and I was way outside of it, but I still can't shake the image of the phantom sitting in a corn field on BD.
Oh no... the phantom's lair is not in a corn field, it's under the corn field in the dark, sinister storm cellar.

Actually I don't handle farms well (I'm allergic to almost everything that grows on farms as well as the weeds that grow between the fields) so I prefer living in the concrete jungles of Omaha.

When were you here, B?

Thanks, Nuru. I like your's quite a lot myself. As has been said before, I like Saucie's. Reminds me of where I wish I was...

Feanor, I love your location, very amusing. Also, Morsul's location "Pure imagination" very scary, this Willy Wonka obsession is disturbing. , but still amusing, funnily enough.

P.S. 251st post! w00t! Now I am a Shade of Carn Dûm! (Dances in a Hobbit style)

White Tree

I just noticed Sirithheruwen's location: Wind's Road. Very pretty; it makes me feel like wandering away on an adventure in the mountains of a faraway land, or riding the back of an eagle.

Meela's is cool

Meela, I must say yours is original! I wish I thought of that. hey, but I can always put four dots, instead of three, it'd be a different location altogether.

Hahaha, just noticed the Only Real Estel's new one. Erm, good luck with that one, mate!

Thanks, Hookbill, although I must admit it wasn't intended to be entertaining. More of a reflection of the way I feel. I've always been clumsy, but this balancing act is proving more difficult than I had ever guessed. Though you are certainly right about Morsul's Wonka quotes. Oops, speaking of chocolate chips, I promised my friend I'd make her cookies.
