Sting The Hobbits

(Sorry if there's alredy a discussion on this, my com. wouldn't let me do the search option) My question is, what is the origin of the hobbits. Elves and Men were the first and second born children of Eru. and the dwarves were made by Aule (I think)
so where did the hobbits come from? and when did they first appear?
