i have read the hobbit,fotr,tt and am almost done with rotk and i was wondering which book i should read next

I suggest you read the Simarillion if you like elves. it is knda boring in the begging. If you want to know about cliff hanger tales read Unfinished Tales. Those are my recomendations. [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]

I would go for the Silmarillion. It's very different in style, but well worth the effort if you are interested in any depth. It also helped me to clarify certain things mentioned in passing in LOTR which puzzled me a bit at the time.

I suggest reading the Silmarillion next also. It's interesting and gives a lot of history about middle earth.

I'm half way through The Silmarillion, and I find it a bit hard to read...I have to pay attention real hard to get everything to sink in.....but it's a great read. I love it!

The Hobbit

There is also the History of Middle earth, wich is made of 12 books.
1-The Book of Lost Tales 1
2-The Book of Lost Tales 2
3-The Lays of Beleriand
4-The Shaping of Middle earth
5-The Lost Road and Other writings
6-The Return of the Shadow
7-The Treason of Isengard
8-The War of the Ring
9-Sauron Defeated
10-Morgoth's Ring
11-The War of the Jewels
12-The Peoples of Middle earth

All of these books were written by mainly Christopher Tolkien.

There are also several other books writen by tolkien but are not related to Middle earth like:

Roverandom
Farmer Giles of Ham
Tree and Leaf

I agree with many of you about the Silmarillion. I would suggest reading it next. When I first read it, I was unsure how to react because it kind of reads like a history text book. But as you get into it, it becomes really interesting and it explains alot of unanswered questions, for example: the in depth origins of the rings of power.
