Not that global warming is complying in any way whatsoever. I must say I like lommy's yinyang penguin and I'm waiting to see what Mänwe comes up with for Chinese New Year and Ground Hog Day.

And Volo's avatar! At first I thought "huh, what the heck is that?"
Now I came to conclusion that these are either asteroids, an underwater landscape (if you can call something under water a landscape) or intestines of some unknown creature. Huh... P.S. And Holby, I also like much your late-Christmas avatar!

Ha! In the past I've been immortalized in a sig (that proved rather mortal) and now I'm immortalized in a location (which will probably also prove a bit mortal...) and vicariously in an avatar!
I've reached the pinnacle of success!!! The view is great from up here!!! (Beat that phantom ...yes, I'm ignoring the bit about him having his own comic strip, so stop raining on my parade )

Always glad to promote myself. Macalaure's avatar has always slightly disturbed me...it looks like some plant monster, the kind that could suck your face off.

Yeah, I guess it might resemble an Alien (no, not Hookbill's alien) type monster
Still, it reminded me more of Staryu or whatever its called that Pokemon creature that looked like a star and shot with water... Nice avatars, I especially liked the "your hat is so Second-Age"

Actually, it's a mind worm from Alpha Centauri, one of my all-time favourite computer games. Don't worry, they won't bite your face off. They will only be laying eggs in your brain - while you're conscious. I second the admiration for Volo's avatar. I came to think it's just bubbles inside a cup of coffee, but it looks very nice and mysterious. |

Further to Esty's comment, it's a visual representation of some lines from Emily Dickinson. But now your avvie, Mänwe, calls to mind Child's eagle avvie. All that's missing between the two of you is a baby, as in the sign outside Tolkien's fav pub, The Bird and Baby, although obviously I guess Child is the Child. (That's one of the most subtle avvies we have here.) I too enjoy Formy's nod to Asterix. If we could persuade Rimbaud to change to a pic of Cacaphonix, we could see a run on Asterix avvies.

Bêthberry, thankyou, I would not have guessed that in a thousand years, as for avvie, I am unobservent enough not to have noticed the similarity between mine and Child's and with the Eagle & Child. Now you have pointed it out...I wonder what his favourite ale was, I like to think he would have been amused by the ale "Fursty Ferret" with which I toasted his Birthday.

I noticed 2 interesting ones today...
first Kuruharan's reminds me of the paintings of saints in Orthdox churches, it might actually be one and Feral Shadow'S one is nice as well, I like the way it comes out of the darkness and then goes away again

I like Mänwë's eagle, it's almost as cute as my occasional penguins.

My avatar is a picture of non-alcoholic-ale in a big saucepan. I wanted something new so I searched my computer for something avatar-size and thought that this one is freaky enough.

Yep close indeed Kuruharan
I can tell you that in Romanian Orthodox churches kings who were considered holy (usually because of supporting the church or killing Muslims) are depicted as saints as well, having a saint-like aura around their heads One interesting story is Stephen the Great, a very brutal and bloodthirsty king who punished his servants easily, but that was considered holy by the church and was beatificated because of his battles against the Ottomans. Guess not all things are what they look like

Lommy, I have to admit your penguins are more cute...fantastic characters too! David Attenborough did fantastic episodes on penguins in his Blue Planet series.
And to add to the list of eagles, I am a great fan of Raynor's soaring Bald Eagle.

I just saw Alcuin's Monty Python avatar. At least I'm pretty sure it's from the Holy Grail, it's small so it's hard to tell. In any case a wonderful avatar from a wonderful movie.

I too was going to give a "thumbs up" to Alcuin's avatar, I believe it is the many eyed monstor in the cave of Caerbannog.

Ah, it was noticed!
Perhaps I need to start doing something like that for every RPG I play in...or every RPG? I'll start taking requests? No, no...trust me, if you cannot tell: my skills are (extremely) limited. |

Ah! Thinlomien....A Mucha! I'm on dial up, high speed Net Zero....so I usually see all the images quickly, with poor quality.
I took the time to wait for the "show all images with high quality" thing....and realized your avatar is a Mucha!

I noticed Nogrod's new avvie. I'd comment with the words I found in one toilet in Northern Norway, but as it inlcudes a swear word, I leave it unsaid. Great that someone promotes Finnish culture, though. Hyvä Suomi!

Thank you shieldmaiden4xsword, it is the start of my intended avvie series for the Chinese New Year. Though I am going to have to ask now, why the smilie smashing a computer? Does it someway reflect the relationship with your own computer?
And a second to Volo's comments on piosenniel's avatar, extremely beautiful.

I agree on Durelin's. I'm actually in the process of making my own Bears avatar. So proud of my hometown team right now and I love Durelin's avatar for that reason.
