The empty space beyond the Halls of Ea. Its accessable via the Door of Night, and that's where he'll come back from(and where Earendil stands guard).

*drags out Myths Transformed\Last Writings soapbox*

Melkor was not thrown anywhere.
Except (!) possibly to the ground while the Valar >Executed< him. That's about it.

Where were the halls of Iluvatar? Were they in the void? Or is Ea like our galaxy. The dwellings of all the other ainur that didn't go to Ea and stayed with Iluvatar in Halls of Iluvatar(another galaxy) and the void is the space between galaxies.

Does that sound about right? Or is it more complicated than that.

Ea is all nature, the (natural) universe, but does not include God or spirits. Eru dwell outside of Ea (with many Ainur). Ea is not just a single galaxy.

Tar-Elenion The High Elves had been in the hands of the gods praising and adoring Eru 'the One', Iluvatar the Father of All on the Mountain of Aman

So the void is what then? That doesn't explain it very well, unless Eru and the other ainur dwell in the void.

The Void is the (mostly) emptiness outside.

What's a burrahobbit got to do with my pocket, anyways?

Maybe I haven't been attentive enough, but wasn't Ea the world? And Eru made it round as in the present day world when the Numenoreans tried to attack Valinor?
I always assumed the void was kind of like space and the universe, but thats just me

I figured the Void was a "place" outside of Time and Space, the Universe, Ea, Arda, Everything. A Dimension without Light, Sound, Sensation or Time. A place where the Song of Eru does not penetrate. The Big Nothing. Total Obliteration. Like the world's biggest isolation tank, only much worse. The only thing there would be your brain wondering "What's next?" Only there would be no Next, because it's the Void.

A very bad place. You don't wanna go there.

Excellent description, Birdland. I agree.
