Pipe What would you have done?

If you were Frodo and had the One Ring, and knew what it was, what would you do? Would you have kept it, or listened to Gandalf and go to destroy it, or would you have run away with it?

I would probably have listened to gandalf, knowing that he knew more about this ring business then me, but I can't tell if I would have succeeded. I doubt I would.

If I had the Ring I would most likely lock it in a steel box and drop it into the middle of the ocean. I don't understand why they didn't do that in the first place (take it over the ocean). Elrond said something about this being Middle-Earth's problem and that they would have to deal with it. I would have sent it out on the last boat to depart from the Grey Havens because no one is allowed to go to the Undying lands except for the Elves and the Ring Bearers (and Gimli who went with Legolas, I think). I would most definately not go into Mordor with it (that shows how brave I am )

ALdagrim is right; the ring was already on the bottom of the great river Anduin when it was found, so it probably would only have stalled things before someone found the ring. And they couldn't be sure that the next finder would be on their side. Also Sauron was winning the war. If they did not destroy it, his forces which was in far greater number than the forces of Good, would conquer Middle Earth.

I would probaly listen to Ganalf, since he is so wise. But it is hard for any of us to say what we would have done because most likely we will never be in such a terrifing position.

I think they should have taken the ring to that eagle guy, I can't remember his name at the moment, and have him drop it into mount doom as he flew over it. It would have made things a lot easier on Frodo and Gandalf and the rest of ME for that matter.

Why didn't they think of that....

Perhaps because the story would be about 4 pages long.

I would have taken Gandalf's advice I think because I do not think I could bear the thought of all of my loved ones and my home being destroyed and twisted because I was too scared to go. I don't think I'd remain the same however...but that is to be expected I should guess. It's altogether a crappy situation with no good solution, but that would be the only solution I think my heart could live with.

I think I'd listen to Gandalf. I'm not powerhungry (very, anyway...), so it's not like I'd WANT to keep it.

I don't know what I'd do. I'm probably too lazy to do anything, either take It to Mordor or keep and use It.

And I was really rejoiced ro read that there are no "powerhungry" people here. Or are they disguising their intentions?

I think, if I was able to do it, we must not forget that the Ring had a wil of his own, listen to Gandalf. But maybe the ring had taken over me already, so I couldn't do that. I don't want that ring at all.

Somebody asked, why didn't they just give it to Gwaihir, Lord of the Eagles, and have him drop it in Mount Doom?
The problem is, eagles are the creatures of Manwë. An Eagle in Mordor would be noticed right away, unlike Frodo and Sam. I doubt that even Gwaihir would get all the way to Mount Doom without Sauron and/or the nazgûl stopping him.

Gwaihir, however, could outfly anything in middle earth, there wouldn't be much too stop him. The problem would be convincing him to do it in the first place. Gwaihir seems a bit like Tom in his caring of the ring. However, he and Gandalf did have a special relationship.

I think I would of tried my best to take the ring. I mean I dont know if I could succeed but I would try. I mean, if someone told me that this one piece of gold would effect myself and everyone on earth, I think i would definently be scared into taking it. I'm sure Frodo was scared but unfortuantly, its just something that someone has to do to save everyone else. IT always seems like that, that one perishes to save the rest....thats a sad story and i dont really see any different ending,no matter who carries it. Thats just my little contribution....

That is what creates heroes: That one person sacrifices himself so that the rest may go free.

An extra note: Thanks to whoever just rated me five bones, that made me go up from 4.40 to 4.52, so now I have five bones. Thanks!!

I would probably try to use the rings power for good purposes, but in the end come fully under its dark power. Then I probably would move to a place with less sun (the darn thing stings my eyes), so I would probably find a nice mountain to settle down under. There I could spend eternity eating fish (and whoever might pass by), safe from any evil beings trying to steal my... precius.

Ok, so maybe I would not make the perfect ringbearer...

i think (think, mind you)that i would at least try to take the Ring to Mordor. And if i knew i would become fully corupted soon, (which i supose is very likely, but very creepy), i would get someone who dislikes me enough to knock me out, tie me in a sack, and toos me into Mount Doom. I'm not the only one who wouyld rather be thrown in a firey pit of molten lava, am i...

OK, so maybe i wouldnt be that brave in real life, but i would sure try!

If I was in Frodo's place, I would try to take the Ring to Mordor. And yes, I DO know the way. And I would set myself with protection spells, 5 elven swords, a bow, 2 quivers of arrows, 3 grey cloaks, 5 spare sets of clothing, a shield, a mithril coat, and learn the Elves Hymn by heart. After all, I haven't been called a I]Maiar, a Istari, a Ithryn Luin, or a master of lore for nothing! I just hope that the Ring doesn't snare me...
