Sting Fire

I don't know if anyone wrote about this before but anyway, In FoTR, at Weathertop, Frodo put that little fire out, which Sam, Merry and Pippin made to roast their sausages, with his bare foot!! Well, doesn't that hurt, or is it just me??
[ February 05, 2003: Message edited by: Finnguala ]

Not if you have lots of callous (sp?) on your feet. It is quite likely that hobbits would have this because they walk around barefooted all day long. People today walk over fire as well, it's the same thing.

I would be worried about catching fire to my foot-hair considering how much of it there is on hobbits.

The soles of a hobbit's feet are leathery, hence why they don't have to wear boots. They even walk in the snow in their bare feet.
H.C.

For the hobbits, it would probably be just like stomping out the fire with your foot while wearing a boot. Though I would be a little worried about the hair though.

I thoughth about that, I guess I have to agree that the callous must have helped them not feel it, since Frodo shows no sign of pain when he does it. He isn't just a person with no sense of touch, though, because he screams pretty good when he is stabbed by the WitchKing

Question

But what about this: Where did Aragorn get his flaming torches from if Frodo stomped out the fire? In the book Aragorn lights the fire on purpose, thinking it will keep the Ringwraiths away, and it doesn't get stomped out. So this inconsistency isn't in the book.

Who's take say Aragorn didn't light the torch while he was looking around? Frodo didn't know the fire might keep away the Wraiths. His reaction was completely reasonable, especially considering they were on the top of a hill basically lighting a beacon.
H.C.
