I love the name Meriadoc, I don't know why it just sounds neat I also like Lothlorien (kinda rolls off the tounge) Minas Tirith and Eowyn. Those would have to be my favourite sounding words. Anduin sounds cool too

Oddly enough I only like two names in the whole of ME better than all the others; Beren and Linaewen. Beren because it reminds me of him and luthien and their story and how bitter sweet it was, and Linaewen because it is the name of a river in the sil, and it just flows right off your tongue.

Kilimac!!!! That is the greatest name ever!!

I just like words that flow, like Utúlie'n aurë! Aiya Eldalië ar Atanatári, utúlie'n aurë! That has got the best line ever (in the book, that is. In the movie, the best line is, 'You're supposed to be deadd!'). I also like imitating Andy Serkis, Billy Boyd, and Christopher Lee.

The first name that really made an impression on me, while reading the LOTR, was Galadriel. I remember even thinking about changing my name to that...

It's settled I have found my faverite thread. I love names in general (I have seven babyname books in my room) and have always LOVED the names in ME. I don't think I could ever pick faverites(there are so many wonderful ones) but I love reading your thoughts on certain names. I'll leave you with one I've been thinking about recently. Doesn't the sound of the word Mithril give the feeling of something long and elegent and beautiful?

Personally, I like the names
Balin (surprise)
Haradrim (It sounds so ... *grrrrr* grim)
Ancalagon
Sauron
Ithildin
Moria
Beregond

and none of you have mentioned "Targon", an innkepper in Gondor who is greeted by Beregond while he is showing Pippin the city.
I really love the sound of that name.

I don't know but I seem to like the name Bombadil. It's so cheery and merry. I also like:

Peregrin
Rohan
Ithildin
Stormcrow
Eowyn
Anduin

Tolkien invented many beautiful and imaginative names for Middle-earth, didn't he?

For me, Tolkien works are full of names which sound very realistic and lively - I mean, you feel that someone could really have such name. The same for places, of course.

My personal favourities are: Melian, Manwe, Cirdan, Minas Ithil, Minas Tirith, Barad-dur.

My favorite Tolkien names are:
Cúthalion
Fingon (short and sweet without any of that fishy pronunciation business)
Maedhros
Caranthir (I am a resident obsessee.)
Maelor (the early version of "Maglor")
Feanor
Nerdanel
Aranrúth (my real name! Yee!)
Labadal (it reminds me of what I used to call my father)
Thranduil
Curufin (has a nice ring to it)
Aldarion
Annael

And straight from the Department of Redundancy Department:
Dagor Dagorath

Anything Elvish.
Any of the Dunedain. (even that word is cool)
Anything that might apply to Aragorn. (especially his. He got some of the most awesome names...)
The Istari.
The Anur.
The Maia.
Need I continue...? If I do I shall name just about everything Tolkien ever discovered.

Tolkien was a Linguistic genius.... *sigh*

I think that every name was given for a purpose. I really like elvish names though, they seem to have a power behind them. I like Feanor, Galadriel,Luthien, and Anariel. I found the last name in a language book. I think it means Daughter of the Sun

Gondor, Westernesse, and Faramir sound really noble and dignified to me.

Rowlie, Frodo, Saradoc, and Meriadoc are just nice names. I just like them a lot.

Withywindle sounds really mysterious and unknown.

Gorgoroth and Morgoth just sound like the utmost of evils.

Bregolas, Maglor, and Maedhros are names of old, and I just like them because of that reason. I like names that sound really old and ancient.

I most especially love Tolkien's Elvish names. I love how they each mean something significant. For places, I love Beleriand, Minas Ithil, Ered Wethryn, Ered Luin, Ithilien, Imladris. I love the name Greyfax that J.R.R. had had in mind for Shadowfax. The two trees, Laurelin and Telperion, are marvelous. Charcaroth just sounds grand. For people, I love Celebrian, Beleg Strongbow, Mithrandir, Estel, Imrahil, Elessar, Gil-galad (which always seemed to me to have a faintly Biblical sound), Glorfindel, Cirdan, Thranduil. My three favorites are probably Earendil, Ecthelion, and Failivrin (no one has mentioned this one yet; I love it for its meaning: "the frail Finduilas, that Failivrin, the glimmering sheen on the glassy pools of Ivrin's lake the Elves in love had named anew.")
