There! Many edits later, I present the list as I make it - I apologise about the fairly dire formatting, my beautiful format as it was on word simply looked terrible when I moved it onto the page (apparently web pages don't like the 'tab' function...). With a fair few experiments, I have managed to come up with this format - I apologise for the messiness, but hey, 'tis the best I can do

Just as a note to your exhaustingly comprehensive list: you've listed Singapore as a part of China (when it is independent), and Hong Kong on its own (when its a part of China).
Other than that, it looked fine to me.

Well if it matters (just for History's sake) Hong Kong used to be seperate but was given back to China by the Britain's around roughly eight years ago, they had a hundred year contract (or something around there, not that it makes a difference now being that it's a part of China, currently).

Look at Heren, all alone in Georgia. I'm so silly; for my first few months on the site I thought he lived in the state of Georgia... only when he mentioned that Tbilisi was the capital of Georgia did I realize how very, very wrong I was. Tbilisi and Atlanta are very different things.

The only problem that I can find is that Abercrombie and I aren't technically in Boston. For my part I've kin just outside and am in the city itself so often that it doesn't really matter, but technically we're Central Mass.
Don't worry about it though...Having people think we come from Boston is far better than admitting that we're from the-middle-of-nowhere-Mass (And for my part it's far far better because I can spell 'Boston' I can't spell 'Massachusetts')

Changes duly made. Thanks for the edits to Singapore and Hong Kong - Hong Kong was the one I wasn't sure about, and I thought it was less likely to offend people if I listed it as being it's own country just in case... Singapore was just a mistake.
Esgallhugwen - you have been added Encaitare - your name has been recitified - trypo....  Shelob - I have editted so that you and Abercrombie are down simply as Massachusetts (that word doesn't seem to look right no matter how you spell it...) instead of Boston. Hope this is ok

I live in the town of Goose Creek. The funny thing about Goose Creek is the references to LOTR. My apartment complex:Bucklebury Apartments. Down the street: Middle Earth Plant Nursery. Down another street: Goldberry's Flower and Gift Shop. Past the fault line in Summerville: Bombadil's Pub and Gift Shop. And in last place with the ranking:South Carolina,with one person (and Switzerland)

Yes, it was not too long ago when Croatia could be pinpointed more accurately by the general populatation than say Dol Amroth!
But of course, Barrow-downers are the exception, and many no doubt, would have no trouble pointing out both locations!

Well the events of 15 - 10 years ago stay in the memory of those old enough to remember them - on the whole I assume that the obsessive Tolkienism of downers does not preclude an interest in current affairs
- obviously a lot of downers are in their mid teens and I am not sure how much recent history gets taught in schools.....

Well I remember many text books being older than me - so much so that French friends boggled when I used a very antiquated word for a sweater, I might as well have said I was going to put on a crinoline! As for History - we only ever seemed to do the industrial revolution .......

Some of the more recent history books do have the more current events, but since teachers seem to think that anything more recent than the Roaring Twenties is not cruicial to our learning, they plan the curriculum so that come June, we've just gotten into WWII. I did look ahead in last year's history book though, and found a short paragraph on September 11th. It was dwarfed by the incredibly huge picture of George W. Bush shaking hands with a foreign guy that I don't know the identity of.
Now Biology books... those were great. "It is the year 2005 and a silver space craft has just been launched and is on the way to our new colonies on Mars." Not. Even. Joking. As for my location... I love it. Everybody should move to middle-of-nowhere New York. It's beautiful, and unlike last summer, this spring is warm. And sunny. With a warm breeze, budding trees, and flowers blooming everywhere. And if you look closely you can see muskrats swimming around in the old abandoned canal (that by all rights should not have any water in it right now. Thanks a lot, neighbors who leveled their land and tossed the excess earth into the drainage area). Ah, and the mosquitos that hover in clouds in my back yard... They breed in the canal, you know. But yes... move to New York. Regardless of the mosquitos and the spring-y smell of manure being spread on fields... it really is quite pretty. Reminds me of the Shire, when it's warm and sunny like it is now. Fea [who's running off to look up the history and location of Croatia]

I'm with Fea and all the t-shirts that tourists can buy every ten feet in NYC: I [heart] New York. It's got everything. The lovely central regions where Fea lives, the heinously snowy part near Canada where I'm probably going to college
 , Long Island, Land of Suburbia, and a big, smelly city that's loads of fun. If there were a happy medium between central NY and NYC (NOT suburbia, that doesn't count) then I would move there straight away. The perfect combination of quirky city bustle and nature would give me a permanent home. |

Please spare a thought for the poor teachers who have to work with outdated textbooks and so forth, because so much money (in my school at least) has been spent on computers and swanky cyber-cafes.
Don't misunderstand me, I love my pc and find them a valuable tool in the classroom, but they will never replace books. I have been incredibly self-indulgent this term. I am reading 'The Hobbit' with a Year 7 class and 'The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents' by Terry Pratchett, with a Year 8 group. They are enjoying both books and I often have to shut my classroom door in case their laughter disturbs other classes Oh, just noticed the title of this thread...I live in the North-East of England.

Oh, I am sure that teachers are not to blame. Just too bad we can never seem to catch up with ourselves. I suppose that it is no use wishing for everything to stay as it is until we can document it!
And bless you for sharing your love of books. I suspect that they might be your own choice.
