Last Hope for Moria

Historical Background: The story is set thirty years before the War of the Ring, when many orcs haunted, killed, and languished in the darkness of Khazad-dum and lived in fear of Durin’s Bane: A balrog.

All players will need to be familiar with the first 3 pages of Chapter V: The Bridge of Khazad-Dum from The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Basic Storyline:

Balin and a band of thirty dwarves set out from Erebor and journey to Khazad-dum in order to re-conquer the vast realm of Dwarrow-delf and again make it the great Kingdom of the Dwarves. They will at first have relative success: they defeat a few bands of orcs, they find True Silver, and repair work goes marvelously. But then, the Shadow grows stronger, and the feeble strength of the Dwarves cannot stay it. The gate of Hollin is flooded, and a Watcher lurks in the black waters, slaying all who come within its reach. Finally, when all is lost, a meager few stand together against Durin’s Bane in The Chamber of Records, before they too, fall into death.
