Posts: 55</TD><TD></TD></TR></TABLE> Re: History of Middle Earth and Unfinished Tales Well I hate to see this thread die. Here is the answer, within the opening paragraphs of BoLT's The Nauglafring: <blockquote>Quote:<hr> Then said Tinwelint, for neither was he untouched by the golden spell: "Nay then, know ye not that this gold belongs to the kindred of the Elves in common, for the Rodothlim who won it from the earth long time ago are no more, and no one has especial claim to so much as a handful save only Úrin by reason of his son Túrin, who slew the Worm, the robber of the Elves; yet Túrin is dead and Úrin will have none of it; and Túrin was my man."<hr></blockquote> The answer I was looking for was Húrin (or Úrin). Theodred, you answered Túrin, and that's partly right. So you're up. <img src=smile.gif ALT=""> </p> |

A smith of Gondolin created something that was said to bring healing - who was he and what did he make?

I guess you are thinking about the Elessar, made by either Enedhil or Celebrimbor depending on what your belief is... both are creditet for its making and both were at some point said to be from Gondolin.

Cirdan is in HoME said to be 'akin' to which two Elf lords?

I can't recall the names that were mentioned, but I'd guess they're Elwe and Olwe.

Thats correct Elenhin - he was always credited for being akin to Olwe, but later writings published in PoME names Elwe too.
Go on please

According to an Elven "fairy-tale" or a children's story, what were the names of the first six Elves that awoke at Cuivienen?

In which case, Cirdan would also be akin to Elmo, Olwe/Elwe's brother.
BTW, this question is killing me!

After reading the tale of Aldarion and Erendis in UT, I've come up with the answer of nine years. 3 years, the normal bethrothal, and 6 years gone to the sea after that... I hope I'm right. |

Hint: One, two, three.
Hm.. as there have been no answers and a long time, I'll ask another one. (You may still answer the first one as well) What do the words Celbin and Moerbin refer to? (Answers to both of my questions can be found in the same text..) |

If we're unable to answer the first one, it seems no one will be able to answer the second one either, since they're from the same text!

No you're thinking of Moriquendi, I have never heard of Moerbin or Celbin and that's very strange to me...

Imin, Tata, Enel are the only names given in Quendi and Eldar in PoME. However, there is an earlier version if I am not mistaken that has it as being Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë as being the oldest. As for the words Celbin and Moerbin; Celbin means elves of the great Journey and Moerbin i assume means one of the Avari.

"has it as being Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë as being the oldest."
That was my first thought, but thought there might be more - Elmo, Olwë, Lenwë? Perhaps Durelen has it. I'm not all the way through HoME yet.

Durelen got it (almost ).
I was indeed referring to the names mentioned in "Quendi and Eldar" (which is in WotJ): Imin and Iminye, Tata and Tatie, Enel and Enelye. The names meant one, two and three in both masculine and feminine forms. Celbin and Moerbin were originally related to the Qyenya words Calaquendi and Moriquendi, but their meanings were different. Celbin meant those who were fighting Morgoth in the War of the Jewels (both Elves and Men) and Moerbin meant the opposite (Elves and Men not fighting against Morgoth; Avari and Easterlings for example). |
