Knowing you don't have to got to school tomorrow! And so knowing that you'll get to lie in til 10 (not long enough but hey it's something). Also having the reason for this being a visit to the uni you're sure you want to go to, and knowing you're going to have a good day.

Some long-overdue assignments
Snow days. Especially when it's the first one in five years and long overdue.
Entering a French pronunciation contest and doing well in it. It's wonderful to have teachers compliment you on your accent! Spring break being only two days away. Getting nearly nine hours of sleep on a school night, even if it means not finishing any of your homework. Teachers who write their hall passes in pencil, and being able to successfully forge a pass because of this by erasing everything but the signature. (Don't worry, it was only so my friend and I could go see a teacher during lunch when we weren't supposed to be in the halls. We weren't doing anything terribly illegal. )

Disney songs! Come on, anyone that can rhyme 'hotter' with 'water' definitely deserves to be sent to the Shire

Kittens. Soft, fuzzy, sweet little kittens.
Though kitty-cat's having just claimed my right arm as a napping spot is making typing difficult, you can probably guess that I don't mind.

The smell of honeysuckle. For once, mine is covered in flowers and as soon as you open the garden door the lovely smell of it hits you.

Having a sweetheart of a husband who gave me an Easter basket the day after Easter with an iPad (complete with LotR and TS in the Books library) in it. I know he's the real technogeek in this house, but he always likes me to try things out first. What a guy.

To the Shire I would like to assign an old wooden toad stool that I acquired at the last birthday party I attended. This is the second time I have unwillingly but politely accepted it in less that 5 years. Used to milk fat cows it has the tendency to grab your trousers when standing up. I must give it up this way so I wont have to wait until my birthday party next year to give it away again.

The Shire makes me think of the Merry England myth, no doubt it has some influence on Tolkien.

I assign exams.
Yes, you've heard me right. And I didn't mix up the threads. We only has six ( ) of them, and they are stretched out over 2 weeks, and they only take about 4 hours including the transportation to/from school and etc. So I have so much free time now! I'm less stressed now than I was a month ago.I guess all this will change once exams will be "real". Like, real real. I'm taking in every moment of this time, though. I don't think I'll get away that easy next year (hmm... I say that every year...)

I assign Ms. Girard (Erm... Mrs. Buckley... she got married last summer... Sorry Lady Buckles!)
Seroiously, Latin Softball is the most fun thing in the UNIVERSE! (Especially when the teacher plays too and you make her translate "Servus verbat alterum servum baculo" [The slave beats the other slave with a stick])

Sailboats and boating. Though it might not be the most common thing in the Shire, the hobbits prefering breakfast and warm baths, I'm sure there are a few Basso Boffins that would enjoy a trip on a yacht.

O. Henry's short stories. They are something I could imagine hobbits telling each other over a pint of mead. Except that you'd have to move the stories back 4 ages...
I also assign silence. I think that many people underestimate it. It is sometimes so good just not to listen to anything, not to have any noise in the background.

France.
How I'd love to live in a country where people aren't afraid to defend their rights. I think I'll actually send Germany, too, for similar reasons. I quote my German friend: "Shopkeepers can't limit the number of schoolchildren entering a shop. It's discriminating and stereotyping. Imagine if they said only three gays could enter at a time." Okay, I'm being a bit testy, but this law looks to me like it belongs in Mordor. Doesn't the shopkeeper own the shop? Does the French law actually prohibit the owner of the place from deciding who can be there? If that's the case, then it's the French gov't that actually owns the shop. I suppose a socialist approves?

I'll send the clichèd light at the end of the tunnel... or is it the top of the well? Whatever it is that hits you when you least expect and makes everything exponentially better. That's Shire-worthy if anything is.
