Surpassing our Expectations? - The Barrow-Downs Discussion Forum

I've just been reading some of the very early threads on the forum, from way back before the first movie was released, before even the trailer was out; and very interesting they are too. Do you all remember how apprehensive we were? What if our beloved books were ruined? What if it all went wrong? There were comments along the lines of "who on earth is that underwear model type they cast as Aragorn?", "the actor playing Sam will have a difficult job not to spoil the character" and obviously the many "Liv Tyler is all wrong" comments. There were comments about how could they possibly make Gollum look right, how could they have an American who looks about 12 playing Frodo, and how could they ever get the scenery to look as we imagined.Think back to those early days - what were your worst fears about these films? Now, think honestly: have they really come true? Have they come anywhere near true? I don't think so. The fears were shown to be groundless. Yes, I was disappointed with some parts of TTT, but for the most part I have been delighted and thrilled to see my beloved books coming so beautifully to life.I have accepted the fact that the LotR that I know and love can never quite be brought to the screen; and I have decided to enjoy the movies for what they are, and be thankful for the many parts that have been absolutely perfect.

DITTO!!!!!!!!!!! The movies have surpassed most of my greatest expectations!!!!

Yeah. I thought that the movies would be a fluke, especially from the earliest trailers I'd seen. Let's just say now I'm very happy.
