Well it was actually a bit less than 50 years, I am sorry for not double checking first.

The War of Wrath is the answer, approx. 42 years in length, ending with the destruction of Beleriand at the end of the First Age.

Feel free to take it whoever would like!!

1695-1699 Second Age, it was Sauron VS. the elves of Eregion, Lindon and Lothlorien, the dwarves of Moria and the men of Numenor.

The Enemy is Morgoth Bauglir
I don't rightly know this, but I thought: Turin, Eonwe and Fingolfin
Turin delivers the death stroke with his Black Sword, thus revenging his dreadful life.

There were three survivors. Ohtar, his companion, and Estelmo.

From Unfinished Tales:

Quote:
There were eye-witnesses of the event. Ohtar and his companion escaped, bearing with them the shards of Narsil. The tale mentions a young man who survived the slaughter: he was Elendur's esquire, named Estelmo, and was one of the last to fall, but was stunned by a club, and not slain, and was found alive under Elendur's body.

That would be the Battle of Tumhalad, if I remember correctly. And the elf that was mortally wounded was Gwindor.

Hi, Beren, nice to see you're back!
But to the answer you gave...you got 2 out of four right.
Battle of the Gladden Fields is usually referred to as Disaster of the G.F.
And the Battle of Hornburg...well: Saruman's forces vs. Rohirrim+Aragorn, Gimli& Legolas
Yes, I'm picky!

OK, how about:

Battle of the Peak (Gandalf and the Balrog)
Battle of Bywater! (Last battle of WR in the Shire)

plus

Battle of Anulzibar (sorry, haven't got my book handy to check the spelling) - Dwarves and Goblins/Orcs

Battle of the Ford of Isen - Saruman's forces and Rohirrim.

That is a valid answer, Saucepan Man, congrats! (the spelling:Azanulbizar)
Two other battles that would have been correct were the Battle of Greenfield (hobbits and orcs, TA 2747) and
the Battle of the Powers (between Valar and Melkor soon after awakening of the elves).

Battle of the Five Armies
Battle of Bywater
Battle of the Pelennor Fields
Battle of the Greenfields
Battle of Fornost (The Shire sent a company of bowmen...err...bow-hobbits.)

And actually the Battle of Gladden Fields is called by that name in quite a few places. With the number of men involved it really is considered a battle but oh well.
