1) What happened in the Shire on Friday the first of Summerfilth?

I think when the Shire folk talked about Friday the first of Summerfilith they reffered to a day that did not exist, or to a day on which unlikely events such as flying pigs or(in the Shire) the walking of trees might occur. In the full expression; On Friday the first of Summerfilth. This is because of what they called the Shire-reform. They created this because they found the shifting of the weekday names in relation to dates from year to year inconvenient and untidy. They later arragned that the odd day which put the successin out, should'n have a weekday name. So after Mid-year's day the day was only known by it's name and belonged no week.
