Hey, I'm an elf!! Could I have the recipy? Oh, anyway, if talking about M-E I would be pretty young for an elf.. Just 144 solar years.. but well, since I'm not an elf (wish I was) I guess I have to tell you about the real me.. I'm female and 16 years old.. I first read the LotR at the age of 12, since my mom didn't allow me to read them earlier.. I wanted to read them at the age of 10, but she forbid me to, but then quite exactly four years ago when I turned 12 I read them all just weeks after my birthday.. And when I start writing, I can't stop if someone doesn't tell me to.. So now I'm telling myself to stop.. ^_^

Actually, I consider miruvor to be Arbor Mist's Sangria. Very fruity! Grenadine would also work.

i sure am envious at most of you who had the opportunity to experience tolkien years and years ago. Female, 23. Saw Bakshi's versions when I was a kid. Was traumatized, what with those blood red skies and Orc heads with white-studded eyes! didn't understand a thing! Started reading october of last year. completely hooked. finished them all. I need Unfinished Tales nad 10 of the 12 'history' books. Regretting for not having started so much sooner. Fearful that most of you wud be Tolkien snobs who would be looking down on creatures like me. For you are the enlightened ones, and the path is not too clear. Give me hope .

Hi, Im a female and Im 16 (I'll be 17 in like a month... can't wait!!) Ummm.. anyway, I really didn't discover Tolkines work untill I was like maybe 6, 7 years old(?), which is when I saw the cartoon version of The Hobbit(note: I didn't really know that I was watching somthing so famouse at the time), but I really really didn't get into Tolkien untill the movie came out, and after that I read the books. But yeah, before all that, I heard bits and peices of Tolkien, but didn't really get it into my head what they were.

Welcome, Carlithiel. Having first read Tolkien around 1972 was not such a great blessing. He dies two years later leaving only The Hobbit, LoTR, Tom Bombadil and The Road Goes Ever On published. These books, and one of his biographies name other "works" in Middle Earth history such as The Fall of Gondolin, etc. I recall going to a bookstore and asking about then only to find they had never been published. So that was all we had until 1977 when The Silmarillion was published and 1980 when Unfinished Tales came out. The Sil. and UT gave new hope, but Lost Tales was, initially, a great disappointment and I didn't resume buying HoME until about 5 years ago. People today have a lot more to look forward to than we "old timers" did. [ February 14, 2002: Message edited by: Mithadan ]

Welcome! I’m relatively new here as well. Only a handful of posts but I’ve been lurking for weeks learning the lay of the land. From everything I’ve seen everyone is very friendly and helpful here. The Admin’s are very knowledgeable and helpful. The only time that I’ve seen what I would term questionable conduct, was from a newbie that seemed to have surfed in and just wanted to stir up some trouble. Male 45!!! I guess that qualifies me as the oldest and smelliest one here! (Puffs out chest & struts around the room) I first read Tolkien in 1972; long before some of you whippersnappers were even born. Why, back in MY day we didn’t even have books. We had to read Tolkien on stone tablets! Hey! Anybody seen my teeth? I need a nap.

Male, 16. I was suprised to see this many females. I know saying that was sexist, but my hobbies are usually considered to be nonsense to most females. That is why I am use to all males all the time. It is nice to see women around here though, dont get me wrong. I do not discriminate. I first starting reading Tolkien when I was 12. I think I wont be done with all of the books until college. So I hope the Barrow Downs stays up for years to come because I cannot think of being on any other Tolkien Forum.

Hi! Well, I have just recently turned 22, and only discovered Middle Earth a few months ago. (Oh, the shame!) I still kick myself for that. Well, other than that, I too seem to be one of the few ladies in my area that are completely in love with Tolkien and Middle Earth. I have a couple of very close friends that are as crazy about it as I am, but my roommates find it a little odd. Inicidentally, it was one of my close guy friends that got me hooked in the first place. |
