Yes, they had to 're-learn' much of they're knowledge.
Henceforth, apart from maybe the two Blue Wizards, the 3 main ones had to spend their early years meeting leaders and researching. So Gandalf wandered in the North mostly and Saruman spent most of his time in MInas Tirith as his first abode examining Gondor's archives.
