I think Aragorn should be allowed a bit of pride - after all, the kingship was his birthright, yet he didn't have the luxury of just sliding into the throne. He spent a lonely life working his tail off, only to be underappreciated and even scorned by people who didn't realize just how much he was doing for them. If I were in his position, I think I would feel justified in pulling rank from time to time.
